What's the lie angle difference between these two putters?

Every putter I've had until now has had a lie angle of 71 degrees. Last week I got a used Ben Hogan Bettinardi BHB5-SS off eBay and the lie angle seems a little flatter. I've taken photos of my BHB1-C, which I know to be 71 degrees (that's the club that is closer in the pic) and the BHB5-SS side-by-side. It looks to me like there's a difference of about the width of one shaft.

 

What do you think the lie angle of the BHB5-SS is?

 

I'm planning to take this in to my Golf Galaxy to get checked, but I wanted to throw this out to the putter experts to get a ballpark estimate. I'm also lusting after the Golfsmith putter loft/lie checker/bender that's $250 but I don't think I would use it enough to be worth the investment (as it only costs about $5 to have it done at GG).

I don't usually measure the lie angle off carpet & neither does the rest of the world. It could be a degree or two, but who knows you just have two putters sitting on carpet against a credenza :drinks: You'll get better #'s from Golf Galaxy

I would bet my bag of used clubs thats its 2 degrees flatter.

Hey, I'm just looking for a ballpark estimate. I've been putting with the SS against my others and I want to get an idea of the difference. I plan to get it checked properly some time this week.

I think most putters are too upright anyway. IMO, most people would benefit from a flatter than 71* lie.

I just got my BHB5-SS in and its 2* flat I havent putted on grass with it yet to find out if it bothers me but it is a really nice putter I really like it.

It is a gorgeous putter. I got it just to try a DASS Bettinardi but this one has a good chance of getting into the bag.

 

Did you have the lie angle checked or was that by comparison to other clubs?

I would say 2* flat as well...I have a 71* and a 69* TPM and that is what the shaft seperation looks like.

Trotgolfer and ckay win the prize. It was 69 degrees per Golf Galaxy. It has been returned to its rightful 71 degrees. I'm not sure why we have had two BHB5-SS putters come out at 69 degrees when they were listed at 71, but whatever.
