Is scratch possible for everybody?

I really was just referring to a the lower handicaps who are hovering around 6 to a 1 usually their short games are solid so they will most likely miss the same amount of greens on a harder or longer course but will have the rating to help them. The higher handicapper yes will struggle and do most likely worse. So I will agree with what your saying I was more or less just talking about the topic and how to get to scratch for those just needing that little extra bump.

And yes gopher I will hook you up with some lessons come on down to DFW

You can't use PGA tour scrambling rates and compare them to better ams. They're trying to hack it out of 6 inch rough, and they do it quite well, but the shots they have around the green are much more difficult those the average player sees. The better ams courses generally don't have rough like that and are playing on slower greens. Both of these make hitting it closer to the hole while scrambling much easier.

I disagree..... Conditions do vary but so do skill levels..... We wouldn't come close to their numbers in similar conditions. They also have much more consistent green conditions than we typically do. Half of scrambling is making putts. A poor chip to 20 feet combined with a made 20 footer is the same as a chip to kick in range.

My point was, if the best in the game avg shy of 60% we shouldn't count on much better.

[/quote]I disagree. Most PGA tour pros would be closer to 80-85 % if they played an average private course with low rough, soft greens, and slower greens. Not to m ention way easier pins. Most of the private courses I play have very good greens. Very good! My average this year is 73% and I keep very accurate stats. My short game is the best part of my game and I used to be a pro but still, I'm pretty sure most of them are better then me....

Comparing our stats to tour pros is a little silly to me. I would say that they improve across the board by at least 15-20 percent when it comes to accuracy and scrambling stats if they were playing an average private course on Saturday morning. That 60 % scrambling would go up to 68-72 percent immediately. I've played with a lot of tour pros and it's uncanny how many times guys will hit 13 fairways and 17 greens on a regular course with no rough, wind, hard pins, or pressure.

I said better ams. Scrambling isn't about making 20 foot putts, because probability wise, that's not going to be nearly enough to be significant. It's about chipping or pitching it to 5 ft or less. That is infinitely more easy from country club rough than 6 inch firestone rough.
