Is there a reason you want a TM Japan driver? Lot better choices out there...

Sorry but I have the japan Jetspeed driver. I gamed the US for over a month with the same shaft. The japan model spins a little less and feels softer. It has a better sound to my ears. The feel and spin were the stand out differences. The us model was fine but the japan model is perfect for me. I picked it up fairly cheap to.

What I'm asking is why not other brands?
[/quote]

Well what's wrong with Taylormade?

Nothing; good lord, don't be so sensitive! I'm just curious if your a fan of their US stuff and wanted to try something of theirs that's JDM or just wanted something JDM and familiar so you thought a US brand.

and again.... you are not helping... don't talk BS about Taylormade. They have good quality products. And the last time they released a new driver is about 5 months ago!

I can provide some limited feedback from a recent trip to Japan. I was a bit disappointed with the prices. I had intended to pick up a Japan model Jetspeed but they were not at outlets and still seemed to have a big retail presence, with the standard retail price being $450-$500 (non-TP shaft). At Taylormade premium outlet they had SLDRS (forgot the price) and RBZ S2s which were going for about $290 I think (non-TP) but no Jetspeeds. Considering that in the US the Jetspeeds are well and truly on closeout it's a bit surprising that they haven't been reduced in Japan.

I really wanted the JDM Jetspeed but couldn't cop the premium prices. I bought a new US Jetspeed from the US for $100 and I am going to hotmelt it to my specs and use a tour shaft from my RBZ S2.

I did pick up a TM Ghost Manta center shaft putter for $60 which I was pretty pleased about, and a mint set of Mizuno MS3s for a very very low price.

It seems that with golf in Japan being a luxury sport they are content to sit on the gear and keep the prices up knowing that their target demographic probably don't mind paying premium prices. Also US brands tend to attract premium prices in part due to the high import taxes in Japan (I think TM Japan still gets classed as US brand for all intents and purposes). Also Japan has recently increased sales tax on everything by 3% which is hurting.

Small point: Japan has no tariff on imported golf clubs, but the US has a tariff of 4.4% on Japanese clubs imported to the US.

Just like there is no tariff on imported cars into Japan, but the US has a tariff of 2.5% on Japanese cars and 25% on Japanese pickup trucks.

You just can't believe a thing you read in the newspapers... :)

Here is the tariff schedule from the Japan Customs website:

i don’t need no stinkin’ shift key

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
