Golf Pride CP2 wrap or pro

I really like the feel of the new CP2 grips. I'm blessed with very short fingers and

I like the wraps just a little more than the pros. Is there a reason why the wraps

wouldn't be as good for me as the pro? I know the wrap isn't tapered like the pro,

but would it have any real effect at all?

IMO liking the feel is pretty much the best criteria for grip selection

it's not as if some slight variation of taper is going to make you slice it 70 yards into the woods instead of being dead center in the short stuff

just install the ones you like....

The wrap fees a bit softer for me than the Pro (though I just tested he Pro at the dummied up grip set-ups a a golf shop. The clubfitter there had the same opinion as me.)

That soft feel, along with the less taper, means with my carpal arthritis that I was recently able to go back to a standard size CP 2 wrap from the Dri-Tac midsize and a the VDR midsize before that. Better feel and ball-striking for me since installing them and I'm sure more longevity that the Dri-Tac.
That said, they probably aren't [u]quite[/u] as cushioning as the Dri-Tac mid, but I plan on sticking with them.

I was also checking them out on the dummy shaft pieces at the store. The Winn's felt much more slick after
some wear. I put one on my new driver a when they first came out and it still feels great. I'm more concerned
with a non tapered grip having some effect on my irons. Again, its because I have short fingers and small
hands. I almost need undersize grips. It might seem like I'm overly concerned, but regripping ain't cheap and
I'd rather get opinions first. Having said that, I do really like these grips.

There was at least other thread on these if you do a search. I got the wrap because that thread said it was a bit bigger than standard with the less taper.

Hear ya that they might be diff for you in irons than on your driver. Maybe have one of each, the wrap and pro put on a couple of your irons to test? I just put the wrap on my 7i at first. after maybe 15 shots at the range I couldn't get them on the rest fast enough. Now, as they were actually smaller than the Winn midsize, a few times early on I wondered if I had made a mistake, feeling that they slipped a bit, esp with the driver. I forgot about that till this post, though that was only a couple of months ago maybe. I also was gripping my clubs a bit tight, not sure if that was a reflex, but my swing coach picked that up in a recent tune up. Hitting some of my longest shots and striaghtest shots of at least this season with every club now, and I'm going to suggest the right grip and right grip pressure for me is a big part of that.

Grip pressure is so important. I worked with a VERY good teacher years ago who had me take off my glove
and get the feel of a light grip. As a result my grips tend to last me a long time and not get too much wear.
I never went back to using a glove, which was good for me not only because I had a very hard time finding
gloves that fit right, (cadet small) but if my hands hurt at all, I knew to lighten my grip a little. Works well.

I just got back from the store. I put a CP2 wrap on my sand wedge. We'll see how it works out. After about a
month on my driver the grip still feels soft and tacky.

I thought the wrap was slightly slicker when wet. The pro had better grip for me. Honestly I didn't care for either, and I am a wrap grip fan in general. I like the Tacki-mac wraps personally. Ymmv

I'm looking at some new grips. I currently have standard VDRs but my hands and fingers have seemed to have start to become sore now. I went to the grip fitting on GPs website and it suggested the CP2 wraps for me. 1) How do this grips feel? 2) I'm a Cadet small so would a standard grip size be sufficient enough? 3) Would I probably need to add 1 extra layer of tape on the CP2 Wrap? I tend to have more than normal rotation in my hands at impact. So would the CP2 counter core assist me with less torque rotation at impact in my swing? I would greatly appreciate some assistance on this. Thanks y'all :)

I would try 1 strip of double sided and then another half strip of double sided under the right hand.

 

They start to feel different when they get stretched by a lot of layers. Im an extreme amateur clubwork guy. On irons i use 1 strip of double sided. On woods/hybrid 1 strip+1 half strip under right hand. I tried more layers and I did not like the way it made the grip feel. (Hard/slick stretched out).

 

I love these grips and they last a long long time. And they are cheap. Do some experimenting!

Hi Bonesaw, thanks for the info. So are you saying to add 1 extra strip of double sided tape on top of the 1 strip you have to use which equals 2 strips before putting on the grip? Or use only just 1 strip of double sided tape and then put on the grip?

Feel i think is preference. I like the cp2 wrap. And yes on some clubs I use just the 1 piece. On driver and some others i use an extra half piece on the bottom hand.

 

Like I said im a n00b regripper so I use double sided. I think some people use different thicknesses of tape to build up but I use the standard golfworks( or whatever) double sided.

To me the Wrap is a much more plush feel, whereas the pro is firmer
