Heavier Driver Shaft

You might GAIN distance if it gives you better contact. I find that heavier shaft allows me to feel the whole club through the swing, and keeps me on-plane and in-tempo more effectively. Using a 95 gram shaft I can build a 44.5" driver without going to a super-heavy head, which means that I hit the center of the face more, which means in turn that I don't need the huge clubhead for forgiveness, which means my 400-420cc driver is workable left and right. I give up some yardage on my longest drives, but my average drive is actually longer.

some big benifits for going to a hevier driver shaft. the idea is called kinetic energy and it works. In fact a senior tour golfer (i can't remember who but I think jim dent) went to a hevier shaft and had big gains. if bug flying at 15mph hits a bb, the bb will travel so far, but if a frieght train hits a bb traveling 15 mph the bb will go a lot further. you may not swing the new shaft as fast, but you can gain distance. I did.

I am 35, and I swing pretty fast, 110+ and i gained probably 15 yeards going from a 65 to an 85, but most importantly I gained control. I can now honestly say that I hit all the fairways sometimes after a round. this is something I could never do before the change.

This is worth a try and the money.

If i go to a 75 from a 65, would you recommend that I change the flex to a R from a S, or should I stay with the same flex?

If you go down in weight,

If you are a good player, ( and shaft depending see below) then no, I wouldn't change flex if you go down in weight, now for me, i would go up to the s flex, but only for the reason of control. stiff shafts are easier to hit straight.

Also this is all relative to the shaft brand and type. If you are talking a prolaunch, then what I say goes out the window. Those shafts play very different through the weights, but like the aldila nv plays the same flex through the weights.

I meant up in weight to a 75, should I go from a stiff to a regular flex. My current driver is a stiff 65 gram

hi, going up in weight, stay with the same flex. unless you are going up more than 20g's, then you will need to hit the shaft first and see, but say from a 65 to a 85 you are fine.

If you did go up in weight, and down in flex, you would wish you would have stayed with the lighter weight stiffer flex. please trust me on this. over the years I have learned this all to well, and it is true with my friends and my wife as well. I have seen several people make this mistake.
