Austin golf trip

I'm planning a weekend trip in March/april to play golf in Austin. Haven't played down there much. Planning on playing barton creek at least once - might stay there but i find it rather pricey. I hear good things about a course called wolfdancer? Anyone have any other course recommendations in that area?

I spent the summer in Austin, and I'd definitely recommend playing Wolfdancer and Falconhead. You can also find some steals for both on Golfnow for $40-$60.

There are several good earlier posts from a few months back but yes, Wolfdancer and Falconhead are good. If you do BCreek, avoid the Crenshaw course unless you are just looking to play golf. it's not very demanding or normally, a very quick round. BCreek Lakeside is actually decent and the Steiner Ranch course has been good in the past.

If it's ok, I'd like to halfway hijack this thread if that's ok, and expand the area to New Braunfels and San Antonio.

I'm having my bachelor party in the area in late May/Early June and would like to play while we're there. I'd like to pay a nicer course but not something that costs a small fortune to play like TPC. Barton Creek, Falconhead and Avery Ranch are already on my radar. Thanks for the info about Wolfdancer, and any other suggestions.

Try the Bandit in New Braunfels, great course and not very pricey, about the same rate as Falconhead, but not as expensive as Wolfdancer.
SA, try Cedar Creek, muni, very affordable and nice

I recently played the bandit and it was a nice course, very nice. I also played Falconhead about 2yrs ago, another nice course.

There are a bunch of private and resort course that you can play for $25 each
Horseshoe Bay, wolf dancer, River Place, Lakecliff, Great Hills etc..

For the NB/SA area check out Vaaler Creek as well. Fun course with a funky closing hole.

And yes, Avery isn't great course. I also like Star Ranch in Hutto. Mill Creek a little further north is good too. Haven't played ShadowGlen since it re-opened but last few trips to Elgin it looked in great shape.
