Guys please help with Epon choice. Also trackman numbers...

Hey guys,

I'm after some help.

I recently got custom fit into irons, Callaway Apex pro's. C taper Stiff.

I also hit a few other irons but it was out of the Epon AF 302 and Apex. I went with the Apex based on the numbers being better. But I want EPONS!

Epons felt better, my dispersion was abit better to but my spin and distances etc were better with the Apex pro's. AND they were cheaper.

Averages. 6 iron. C taper Stiff.

Epon 302 club speed ball speed smash fac spin attack ang launch ang carry (m) total (m)

95mph 126.8 1.33 6670rpm -6.7 14.7 161.8 168

Apex pro 91mph 128.8 1.41 6046rpm -6.4 13.9 167.0 174.8

So the Epons were spinning a little more. I could strengthen the lofts 1* ? I need to improve my attack angles I play steep. My driver is -4 !!! (working on it)

I just love the Epons. I want a set of irons that will always be awesome. Callaway bothers me as there is always 'better' too often it does my head in.

What about the new AF tour CB? - I like the fact it probably has little less offset. But sole would be thinner then 302? and forgiveness slighty down??

I also struggle with 4 iron too. AF - 303 in 4 iron might be the way to go to.

thoughts guys????

Dude , you said it in your post "I want Epon's" !
We're those numbers outdoors with a LM ?
What L.M were those samples taken from ?
Dispersion is one of the most important factors . Feel also , I would trade a few yards distance for something that I prefer the feel of .
I've heard a lot of guys speak very positively about the 302s but haven't heard any feedback yet about Epon's newer models .
See if your fitter will let you borrow the 2 clubs so you can hit em into some greens .
My best advice to you would be to take your time and not rush into a purchase . Gather all the info you can and try both clubs out on the course so that you can make a well informed decision .
Good luck .

i would suggest going with the 302 if you hit it already and like it. they are still considered by many one of the best irons ever. i love epons! i have owned the af tours, 302's, 502's, 702's and just recently ordered the 303's. the 302's are very forgiving for a players cb. but as i don't get to play that often anymore, i figured i could use a little more forgiveness. I was told by the epon dealer that the 303 plays more in between the 302 and the 503. the biggest complaint about the 503 was the under cavity that gave it a clicky feel at impact, whereas the 302 is buttery soft. the 303 is a sold one piece with no under cut cavity nor is it hollow. which ever iron you decide on...i am sure you will love them! good luck!

I already own the Callaways, Because it was a couple of months before any news on the new Epons.
Doesnt matter though I'll take hit. I hit these irons long, but I'll drop a club length for dispersion.

Wondering If I should just order the 302's at a good price. Or wait until I can see a demo of the AF tour CB.

Here In Melbourne they arent around much at all.

I feel your pain Mate .
Believe me when I say there's not much of an Epon scene here in Sydney either .
As mentioned earlier by another poster the 302s are widely regarded as one of the greatest cavities made ! If you've got a chance to grab them at a good rate then you should by all means take the plunge as It would be hard to imagine that the newer AF Tour CB would be enormously better and I don't think that the 303s will be comparable to the 302s .
Definitely take dispersion and feel over distance every day of the week and twice on a Sunday !
Shoot me a PM with your number if you want to have a chat as I've hit and played Epons in the past .

Exactly.
I know the 303 wont fit me.
The Tour CB maybe, but the slight thinner sole wont do much. I actually prefer the look of the 302's
Bugger it, im ordering them ! haha.
Might just grab the 4 iron in either the 303 or 503. Which would you think??

Also, why the switch to Miura?

The AF CB looks great, but I'd go with a classic 302. Many have raved about that iron. I was close to ordering them and will order a similar set some day. Just perfect. I play the TB from Miura these days and very much enjoy them, but I want to know the feel of Epon someday. I wouldn't pass up the deal if it's good, retail value will still be there later if you see a demo and find it to be better for you.

I wouldn't go for either !
I had a set of 503s that lasted in the bag for about 2 months . I tried them with a couple of different shafts and they just didn't suit me so I went back to my Passing Point Straight Necks . Although they weren't for me the reason I don't think you should include them in your set is because of the massive difference in feel and performance you'll get . I'm not sure they'll flow well . I also would advise against the 303 as you are considering including a club in your set that you haven't seen or hit .
I think that there's 2 ways for you to go .
1. 302 4 iron and get it workin for you .
2. 4 hybrid .
As to your last question .
I've tried Epon 301 , 302 , 502 , 702 , 703 & gamed the 503s .
I've also tried all of the current Miura offerings & am currently testing shafts for a new set of the Miura CB57s . I have a CB 57 6 iron with a Nippon Modus 3 120 S flex & a CB57 7 iron with a KBS C - Taper S flex .
For me , I prefer the Miuras . I like the look at address & love the feel .
Don't get me wrong the Epons have their feel , I just enjoyed the feedback of the Miuras better .
For me , I think the CB57s are probably one of if not the nicest cavity that I've ever hit !

The numbers difference probably due to lofts of the heads. Apex Pro also has a thinner hotter face. My guess is a tweak of the lofts would close the gaps enough to where the numbers would be statistically insignificant.
