Got out with DT this am for great round at Oak Creek. Had a friend of mine from work and his father tag along. Oak Creek always delivers with the am speedy round with no other players in sight.

 

Course was probably in the best shape I have played it. Greens receptive if you hit a good shot, but firm enough to allow a roll out on a poor one.

 

Played boring golf on the front for a 37 and DT and I even caught ourselves complaining about it. LOL - well that changed on the back with a solid 43- driver got away from me on 2/3 par 5’s on the back and threw in a few 3-putts for good measure. On the front I hit greens and got up and down when needed to.

 

Had an interesting moment on the par 5 14^th when I switched balls on the tee to Pro V1 but when I got up to looking for my ball, was looking for the Srixon. DT asked me if I found my ball and I said no.. when I went to the cart to grab a ball I saw my 2 Srixons in the cart and remembered that I had made the switch. Funny moment when DT and I looked at each other and here is the unspoken convo

 

DT- “really – go into woods with Srixon, come out with Pro V1?”

JJ- “dude – look at the balls in the cart, two Srixons”

DT- “Whatever man”

JJ- “youre right – I can make double without the hidden ball trick”

 

How that happened. I have not played Pro V1x for about a year, but I would say its “my ball”. Ive been playing some others off and on, but any “important” match, that’s what I would play. I found a ‘15 dozen for $29 so I got them and thought id play them. Early holes DT start mentioning how my ball is really ballooning and the poop is not there that I usually have. I tell him I really think it’s the ball and ive noticed it as well. Anyhow- I switch to Z-star on the 7^th and immediately hit a drive that is lower and much more roll. It wasn’t the swing. Swings on 5 and 7 were both very good and very similar, but the ball acted completely different. Around the turn we’re talking about which balls are better and I say that I have not played the Pro V1 in years because I thought I needed to play the Pro V1x. After a terrible 3 putt on 13 I think how I like the Srixon off the tee, but I don’t like how it feels with short irons and putter, so I go into my bag and find a Pro V1.. put it into play on the 14^th, and rest played out as said above.

 

So all that being said – ive never played three different balls in a round and hit good shots with all 3 to see the actual difference. Was interesting and I do think the B330S, which I have probably made my actual day to day game over the last year, is the best ball for me. That said – Ksig is also very nice, and need to try the new Tp5

Lol. I never had any unspoken conversation. I trusted you found your ball, even if you didn't realize it was your ball. Especially since 3 holes later I bring up you hitting a Srixon in and a ProV1 out. Complete trust man. (For those who may not know me or JJ, he really did hit a proV off the tee and got super lucky with the kick. Pure jimmie rustling)

 

In related news. Best start on that course I've ever had. Equated into the best round I've played there. Course is in fantastic condition. Greens were quicker than I have played them, but still not fast. Kind of just went with the iron flow and hit some great balls. Still haven't figured out distance, but I played for everything to come up short and didn't miss a single green on the short end. Hole 13: 166 par 3 - JJ 7 iron missed a bit on the front. DT PW 4 yards short / right of pin. Just laugh.

 

I blew two par 5s with JJ. Hit a pretty nice draw with the driver for the first few holes. Have a long D break and then pipe a nice slice in the woods on a draw line (x2). Awesome.

 

Great morning for golf. JJs buddies were a good group. Glad we got out.

In an effort to prevent getting wildly drunk I'm watching first period in the hotel room. Going to dinner at the bar alone for the rest of the game. Only challenge is the hotel has unlimited bud light from 530-730 (I'm in central time) so I've had four.

Come off the front at a respectable 39 (3 frutt on 7. 3 putt on 8).

Decide to hit 4w into the wind. I hit it perfect off a tee earlier. Jack it straight into the woods.

 

Decide to hit a bunt drive for my provisional. Just a nice shot into the left rough. I have 175 to the back of the green, up Hill. Up wind. Back pin.

 

Hit a 6 iron that flew the green, bounced OB.

 

Drop a ball. Pull the 7 iron. Flew the green from the same spot. OB.

 

Pq hits one into the left woods. Hits a provisional that he sort of hooks into the right trees. Finds his first and Tries to punch out and it winds up in a bush, still in the woods. Has to take an unplayable. Punches that out. Starts walking, finds his provisional on the left side of the fairway.

 

Smdh.

 

I will miss that hole like I misses a rock in mah shoe. #django

I can on occasion and it tends to be with little or no notice...like, maybe, tomorrow(depending on weather). Just a by-product of work. And nearby is relative since I live in Warrenton.

 

Speaking on which, I decided to stay home yesterday and hit Prince William. They started us off on 10, which is actually the harder place to start with no warm-up. I proceeded to hook my drive behind a tree. Just couldn't get consistent and putting was not on point. 3 3-jacks. Couldn't get the speed down and was blowing putts past the hole. Managed to make some long combacks but not enough to save myself. Was also hitting about 10 yards short on approaches, which didn't help...although I hit some really solid shots, too, but couldn't convert them. Played better on the back (front) to go home with an 89.

 

Since I was a little pissed off, I hit Broad Run for nine. Played better but still putted for s***, speed-wise. Didn't keep score but I'm guessing about 3-4 over due to putting one in the drink but hit much better.

 

Gonna try to get in a round or two this weekend depending on the weather. Tomorrow/Saturday look sketchy.

Unless the person has to finish the round with some type of catastrophic injury - ZERO. I think any legit 1.4 or lower could take a year off, and shoot lower than 127 on the actual US Open course, in tournament conditions, with an hour of warm up to shake off the rust. I mean, 127 is unfathomable.
