+++ Is the Bushnell Tour X accurate on the slope reader? .. I doubt that +++

Recommended Posts

I have been using leupold GX-4 slop reader for several year and just recently I decided to try out the Bushnell Tour X.

leupold_gx-4_600pr.jpg1197_5.jpg

So I had both going out to the golf course which was mountain course and tried whether both had the same measurement or not.

I found that for non-slope function both worked pretty close to each other. However, for slope reader, both were far different. Bushnell was just small yardage different from its non-slope but Leupold was quite significant add-in yardage.

I shot both at the same distance on 1 of Par 3, middle pin.

Bushnell was reading 145 yards on non-slope and 146 yards on slope reader so plus 1 yard.

Leupold was reading 145 yards on non-slope and 154 yards on slope reader so plus 9 yards.

So I hit a couple shot with my 8 iron and those were short to the green. Then I change to 7 iron which I normally gain 155 yards and it's right next to the pin.

I tested several holes and result pretty similar to above. It showed that Bushnell never added more than 2 yards of any holes, while Leupold added pretty much between 2-12 yards. And to my test, I found that Leupold is more accurate on the slope reader.

That's my experience and if anyone has used any of these, please kindly share your thought. I tried to find review in internet and it seems no one has ever tested comparing both side by side.

Thanks,

I have the Leupold GX-4i2 recently upgraded from a GX-3 and played a mountain course last week. Readings were all over the place. Sometimes it would show something like -4° of slope but yet the yardages were higher than the LOS. For instance LOS at 150 yards but top number showed 158. I stopped using the slope after a few holes because i was frustrated. It didnt work like how i wanted. My best guess was maybe i did not put the accurate temperature and elevation. I remember only changing the temperature to 95° but never changed the elevation which was 3300 ft. I normally play at about 1000 ft elevation. I called Leupold and they told me to reset the unit and give it a try again. I havent had a chance to play any elevated tee golf course yet but im hoping it works.

My buddy has a bushnell with slope and he seems to love the slope function. OP on the Bushnell do you have to put any information in prior to the round to make the slope reading more accurate? Also when you used your Leupold, did you put the temp and elevation on it?

And there is an objective truth to a slope measurement (yards up/down or degrees up/down). But there is no objective truth to 'how many clubs or yards to add' as that is highly dependent on the trajectory of the ball being struck.

I haven't put any setting into both bushnell and leupold. I know leupold can be set both altitude and temperature but I can not find any setting those info in bushnell...

I've never used a Leupold, but I have a Tour X that I've been using for a little over a month. I like it a lot, but I know all the local courses around me well enough, and only a couple of them have major elevation changes, that I don't use the slope all that often. I bought it with the thought of using it when traveling, or during a practice round for a tourney at a course I'm unfamiliar with. But, I definitely have gotten slope readings that added more than 2 yards a few times.

yeah it depends how far you hit your clubs and how high you hit them

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
