Using A Rangefinder. (Bushnell Tour X)

After using GPS for a while I bit the bullet and bought a Bushnell Tour X yesterday. I'm having mixed results using it, seems like I need to hold the eyepiece a little away from my face to get the best view or the lens seems to be a little blurred/blocked, is this the norm with Rangefinders...hold slightly away from face? The Z6 jolt looks like it may have a slightly longer eyepiece, just wondering if this might be a better fit.

Fwiw the readings themselves and slope function seem top drawer.

I've never consciously had to do such a thing. Never noticed anything like that.

If the display is blurry, you can turn the eyepiece to focus it.

usually rotate the circle around the eyepiece to get it clear, that is how my Nikon is

It sounds as though you are pressing the unit into your eye socket. Most people rest the top of the eyepiece against the forward underside of the eyebrow protrusion. If you allow the eyepiece lens to get any closer than about 1/2" from your eye you are preventing optimum use of the device and will experience blockage and blackouts of the images.

If you stop to think about it, 1/2" is approximately the normal distance of the eyelid and eye from normal eyeglasses. Once you've established the correct positioning of the lens you can then adjust the diopter wheel to sharpen the focus.
