Advice needed on Proto VS selection

Here is the skinny:

 

I have been stuggling with the driver for a while. I randomly bought a 9.5 degree Titleist 905R with a Proforce V2 stiff off of ebay. I was guessing that it would work for me. Well...it didnt. I cant get it up in the air, and I am slicing it hard.

 

So, I have spent some time demo-ing out drivers from the PGA Superstore. I have found that I really like the New Nike Sumo driver at 13 degrees. I am wanting to get the Aldila Proto VS shaft in it, which is a stock option. The drivers I have been demo-hitting have that shaft, but in a 65gram stiff version. I hit it great, but it is a little whippy and I feel like I am losing a little distance, but its straight.

 

I swing the driver at about 110mph. I have too much spin on the ball, 3300+. So, in talking with a Ping rep, he said to go with a heavier shaft, which will reduce the spin.

 

So I am thinking of getting the Sumo with the vs proto shaft, but either the 75 or 85 gram stiff model. The only problem is they dont have one for me to demo, so I am going on thoughts alone...

Funny, I just mentioned in another post how I took the Sumo with VS Proto out on the course. If you're going with the VS, definitely get the 70 because the 60 is lacking something. It was the same thing when the NV 75 came out, loved it but hated the NV 65. Felt like almost two different shafts. I think the NVS is their best to date but I, like you have too much back spin for that line. Don't get me wrong, the VS Proto 60 in the Sumo was a good performer, it just lacked feel for me. The 70 should feel better and will help with the spin.

 

BTW, my SS and spin rates are about the same as yours.

so how should I decide if I need the 75 or the 85 gram shaft?

 

I did hit the graffaloy compnt in a 85 gram shaft in the rapture driver...

Did you like that set-up (comp NT in the Rapture)? Not too havy? What length are you planning to play the Sumo at? Do you prefer heavier shafts or the lightest you can manage? It really is a preference at this point but go with the lightest one you can handle. I'm guessing the 75g.

The 85g shaft that I swung was an X-flex, so it felt stiff as a board...

 

What is the performance difference between the 75 and 85gram shafts? If you could hit both, how would the ball flights change between the 2?

 

In the past, I have struggled to get the ball in the air with the driver, that is why I am going with the 13degree sumo. would the difference in 75 and 85g shaft effect that in any way?
