equipment for a woman.

i have a friend, a woman who is 6'3". she's looking to start golf and buy some equipment. will the women's starter sets fit her, or will she need men's? or should she just go to a fitter? problem is she's not swung a club and i don't know how much a fitter would help. thanks.

I am going to get flamed for this, but according to a well respected instructor that you often see in GD. He thinks you need to swing a club and take a couple of lessons before you are fitted. even if you go to the lesson with no clubs, the instructor should have a club you can use.

I mentioned this once before and everybody flamed me, but seriously I think he is right, why go and get fitted for a new set of clubs, it will all change once you learn how to make a swing.

agreed. getting fitted doesn't always the best solution. she needs a decent swing before fitting becomes needed.

She most likely needs men's length...maybe even longer than standard. Have her go somewhere w/ multiple fitting carts and a reputable fitter. B

Any teaching pro whether at a course or a driving range will have clubs that she can use during the lesson. She may even be able to borrow one or two for practice or simply return to the same facility and use the club(s) used during her lesson. After a few sessions, the pro/instructor should be able to give you some level of guidance about what sort of sticks she should consider purchasing.

I agree she should use some mens clubs and see how she likes the game...develops some good basics..then get clubs. If she's long legged...she'll need longer clubs, but if she's longer in the upper body and shorter in the legs, she can probably get by with a mens set for a while. They usually measure your fingertips to the ground. Compare yours and hers and see what you come up with.
