Mike Emery's Evolved Fundamentals of Golf (Review)

Curious as to if anyone saw improvement long term after reading the book? Most books I have read were okay but nothing more. Nothing that changed my swing for the better and stuck. Most of the best books I read have been putting books and the mental aspect of putting.

Just looking for some thoughts for those who have purchased.

I saw **immediate** short term improvement since getting this book a couple days ago. The transition move advocated in the book, albeit a small piece of the puzzle, seems to be that missing piece that linked everything together that I had been working on the past year. That alone was the price of admission.

My sentiments exactly. As I said in my OP, the book helped tie together some things I had been working on, but it was an "a ha" moment for me and for the last couple months I have hit the ball better than ever.

On his website right now and see 2 choices for e-books below where you can order the hardcopy version. While I like the idea for having a larger screen (computer) for reading and studying the book, I do like the portability of reading on Kindle. However, illustrations / pictures would be quite small on the Kindle.

Drew. Curious how did you hear of him? I am enjoying the book so far but he really seems to have come out of no where. Perhaps he is known in the golf industry but surprised this is the first i have heard of him being such a wrx nerd.

Thanks Golf Beat - on ME"s website, there are 2 e-book versions for download, one if for Kindle and the other would be for computer's as you did.

Bruce

I only see one link with the EPUB file. There is no link with the MOBI file.

I purchased the Kindle version and the link loaded the EPUB file instead of the MOBI file.

Looking for more examples of the scrunching and found this swing here, not sure if it qualifies as such:

Watch the left heel in transition, it gets replanted (without really coming off much). At the same time the right foot rotates clockwise for a fraction of a second and the right hip goes deeper.

What do you guys think?

Mike,

I assume you gave many lessons on these concepts, how easy did your casual golfer students find going from cupped wrists to bowed left wrists before turning the corner? I wonder whether this is very difficult to accomplish and the better option would be to start the downswing with a bowed wrists. What would I lose if I did that?

Well, I hesitate to say this only because of the way this guy has been viewed on WRX in the past, but I found Mike as a result of Joseph Mayo's twitter feed. Regardless of playing ability, I think Joe has some very good ideas. He is always seeking the truth about what is happening in the golf swing, and he isn't averse to admitting being wrong about things if they are shown to be false, so I appreciate him.

He recommended the book several times, and I decided to test the waters. Glad I did!

I have downloaded the epub version to my Windows 10 laptop. What app (program) was used to open it? Would not open as either a .pdf or word doc. Also, how can I download it to my tablet (android)? now that I have downloaded it to computer - old guy here, not too computer savvy.

Thanks - Bruce

Another old guy here too Bruce. You need an app which will read the file. I got Redium which attaches to Chrome. If you use Chrome I would recommend it.

It's free and you can download it here;

So I hit the range tonight after reading through the book.

Overall very positive. The main thing I was working on was the legs and hip actions in the downswing. Pushing the left knee out and then rotating the hips.

When I got it right it was great - nice trajectory and good distance.

However I was fading the ball and leaking right more times than I would like. I was also hitting the mat first sometimes and I have a sore elbow now.

That's due to my steep swing (something I've always had, it's not a result of trying the methods from this book).

If I can just shallow out in combination with this hip movement then I'll be feeling good.

Try this. I've found it to be very helpful for combining leg movement with shallowing of club

The fade could be from less in-to-out. Can you post a swing?

To be quite honest, I feel the wrist position at the top is a minor determinate. I like the cupped position because it can assist in straightening the right arm. Very easy to get the club very vertical at impact from the bowed wrist position. But the advantage of the bowed wrist is that there is no need to spin the club through impact.

Mike,

Gave the book a quick scan last night and think it's fantastic. The illustrations are excellent. That said I had a few points of disagreement that I thought might be an interesting discussion (agree with most of it but us agreeing and patting each other on the back isn't any fun ?). Some of my questions may not be disagreements as much as needing clarification. Totally agree with down swing flexion of the lead wrist. When do you believe the wrist begins extending? Supination of lead arm through impact happens in all great swings and a pretty significant amount of it. Do you have any 3d data to show that the release as you describe it slows the rate of closure? You mention parametric acceleration, what do you believe about the kinematic sequence and when deceleration occurs? Last, you said the right hip externally rotates in the downswing. I think we have different definitions. It is pretty widely accepted that the right hip internally rotates. How are you defining external rotation there? Hope we can have a good conversation so the golfwrx members can learn. Once again, love the book.

Hello, I am glad you like the book. First, let me say that I do not have 3d data. I do feel that it is very simple to put a soft flat object 2 feet past impact to determine where the club face is aligned. I'll try to answer these in the order I am reading. I believe the left wrist starts extending as the left side lengthens, left shoulder goes back and away(parametric acceleration). I am currently writing a second book that will be diving into linking, of which I feel that I have learned enough about the anatomy to make some really cool conclusions, but more on that later. The redirecting of the club handle up and left from the shoulder moving back and away will create a slowing of the handle and a speeding of the clubhead, also extension of the wrist. This extending of the wrist will create supination along with the body rotation(supinates in relation to target, not body). But I do not believe that the player should ever feel supination. In transition, when the right leg flexes in order to tighten the hip flexors, the right right hip will externally rotate since the feet are pointed out 15 degrees, but this is right as trunk rotation takes over going toward the target.

Thank you,

Mike
