Help! Any ideas on how to re- Pyratone/Faux old clubs????

Have about 10 sets and 25 irons and woods. A few clubs in each set, Wilson, Spalding ect. need to be redone. You know the brown and yellow shafts. The covers chip and break of from being dry, it's like thick paint, or many layers of paint. Ideas I have run by myself, (yes I take to myself), match paint, shelf liner paper, that stuff you dip tools in to put rubber handles onto, taking all the coating off and sanding, priming and then painting original color. The thing is I pay say 50 for a set and hope to sell it for 80 to 100, after the ebay fees, time becomes a factor. It takes about 1-2 hours to clean, wire wheel, polish, clean and treat grip, shaft, and head. this would double the time of the, work at least.

I have repainted shafts of a couple pyratone clubs. Sometimes, the entire coating comes off easily, sometimes not. I just tried to match color as best as possible, never made a big project out of it.

 

If a club only has a minor chip on it, I've wound whipping around the chip. It mimics a hickory repair, like RTJ's Calamity Jane putter.

 

Like any other project, trying to get something perfect is time consuming and rarely worth the effort.
