Garmin Approach S20 and AutoShot Feature

Moving to compete against other devices such as GAME GOLF, Garmin’s new AutoShot feature aims to capture the location and distance of each shot automagically, then uploads data for post-round analysis, including map overlay.

 

Can someone tell me how this autoshot feature could work? If you have to press a button after you hit your shot and then it calculates how far it went does not seem automatic to me

 

This method of checking distance was also available on other Garmin watches

 

What is Autoshot feature and how would it know what club you hit the ball with? Game Game uses a device to tag your sensor.

Imho the AutoShot feature is (potentially) what makes the S20 stand out from the competition. I therefore also think this function justifies it's own thread. The thread Stuart G refers to, provides some information on the AutoShot feature, but with the exception of Tink's post on 02 March 2016 - 07:49 AM (edit: and a later post by Justmuckit), the remaining experience seems to be with "everything on", and with other things in focus.

 

I have been communicating a bit with Garmin around the Autoshot feature, but the feedback has been almost as useless as the S20 manual.

 

What I would like to see is a basic Autoshot function, which records every shot in the background without any need for the user to interact with the watch. Tink's post seems to indicate this is how the watch works with activity tracking on, stat tracking on, scoring on, club tracking OFF, but Tink is the only user reporting this.

 

In addition to the basic AutoShot I would like optional club selection. The S20 seems to suggest which club was used, and I would like it to default to that choice (with club selection on) if I didn't do anything further. If it's suggestion is correct, why do I have to confirm this? If the suggestion is wrong I would have the option of correcting it immediately, or wait until after the round if I just leave it as it is.

 

Same with score: If it proposes a score that is correct, I would like that I didn't have to do anything. Only if I need (and want) to correct it should I have to do anything.

 

With the exception of Tinks (edit: and Justmuckit) post, this is NOT what users have reported. All other reports indicates that even when the watch gets club selection and score right, you still have to confirm both, thus continuously need to interact with the S20. Imho totally defies the purposes of an "automatic" function. The S20 might as well just record a shot manually, whenever a club was selected.

 

What is the purpose of detecting a shot automatically if you always have to confirm the result afterwards? It's like looking at your watch to see what time it is, and then having to press a button to confirm that the watch is showing the right time. Very stupid imho.
