iPhone issues

I'm having an issue with not being able to receive pictures or send them over my homes wifi. I can send everything over data just fine. I've reset everything, turned iMessages on and off, sms is on mms is on everything should be good. Regular text iMessages work just fine. I've talked to apple and they were useless. Any suggestions on what to do next from some tech wrxers?

You are not in the minority. This happened to my cousin, can't use the wifi on his phone or the maps even on regular data. Couldn't get it fixed, and just bought a new one.

 

If your maps are working, it's probably not the same serious issue but just a thought.

 

Hopefully you have AppleCare?

Maps work just fine. It's been doing this for about a week and my gf has had the same issues as well since yesterday I'm assuming it's an issue on apples end but they won't admit there's any problem. Not being able to send isn't so bad but all I receive is a box to download the picture that never downloads so I have to turn off wifi and text the person back and have them resend it, it's just a pain. Not sure about Apple care but the phones under a year old so should be under warranty

It's a router issue. You can open some ports to fix it. Try Google, you should find specific directions.

Nice, good it's not the same thing and yup iPhones come with the 1 year manufacturer warranty so you're good.

That was another thought I had but I've had the same wifi for over a year. Does that still make sense. Are the ports easy enough to mess with? I like to think I'm pretty smart but computers aren't my thing

Edit spoke too soon. My iMessages work correctly on another wifi network. So now the question is should I just get a new router/modem. Mine is a netgear and at least 5 years old. Also I get my internet through a rural provider could this be an issue with them? Again this only started recently and I have changed nothing that I know of.

Ok so I really am lost with the ports thing. Completely reset router and checked for updates with none available problem persists. Guess I'll be buying a new router

Just curious, has the new router increased your internet speed with you computers? Recently bought a new one and didn't realize what I was missing out on until I got it.

Can't say I've noticed much speed change but the receptions is much better away from the house. It's a cheap net gear n300 so pretty similar to what I had

I hope you didn't buy another Netgear. I bought one (on reputation). It failed. I thought it was a fluke so I bought another one (different model). Now this one is having problems. Never again.

I definately did buy another netgear. Lol. Oh well my last one was 6 years old and if this one makes it a year or two I'll be happy. It's got a warranty through netgear and through Walmart so replacement shouldn't be too bad

Well same problem is back. Is it really possible this router went bad in a week?

It is a router issue I had 3 net gears and mine worked sometimes and at times would not work on wifi for anything. Yet in stores of other people's houses it worked fine. Now I have a windstream ( God I hate windstream ) modem router combo and it works perfectly all the time. Same I-phone 6.

As weird as it sounds I think I fixed it by deleting a contact and message thread. In my googling I found that a message thread can cause issues like this. I narrowed it down to one particular person and both times I have had issues I received a media message from them. Deleted everything associated with them and instantly solved my problem. Maybe pure coincidence, maybe not but so far so good.

I switched to a tp-link ac1900 a while ago. cost less than comparable features on netgears and the dual 2.4ghz and 5ghz bands are awesome. streaming works much faster and is more stable.

 

Glad you got the issue fixed on the iphone though. I had a similar experience and I just power cycled the phone and it worked...lol
