PGA Superstore

Plano edition
I checked out the PGA superstore this weekend since I figured the courses would be too soggy from all the rain. I live on the west side of Fort Worth so it was quite a trek, but I'm glad I went.

Going on the Saturday before Fathers' day wasn't exactly ideal as the place was absolutely mobbed, but I still got a chance to play around.

Most of the really big name items we the same price as everywhere but I noticed a few good deals; balls, the Mizuno MP-T line (Chrome, Black Ni and Raw all $89.99, cheapest I've seen the raw) and gloves stand out in my memory.

The equipment test area was busy and I didn't notice right away that half of the stalls were for lessons so I got politely kicked out of one :shok: but they were cool about it before they needed it.

The putting area was nice and large, but I'm not really a putter nut so I didn't spend much time on it.

The wedge area was really cool though and wedges are the closest I come to "ho-ing." The simulation rough/fairway floor was great. The sand was too busy for me to try but it looked reasonable for testing out a wedge.

They have an indoor driving range also that will do swing analysis, I think it was something like $15/30 mins. That would be a fun way to practice if you are trying a new move or something. Still not as good as really seeing a ball go somewhere but I've never seen my swing on camera and would be nice.

I don't know why it stood out for me, but I have never seen so many shoes before in a golf store. They had everything and I finally got to try out the Footjoy ReelFit (sweet by the way.)

Over all this is the best Superstore I've visited. If it wasn't so darn far away I'd consider frequent trips and maybe even a set of lessons.

I hope these stores spread :cheesy:

ohhh...goody. i am heading to Dallas in the morning. I am staying in Plano so I will def. have to check it out.

I was at Golfsmith in Austin today...I-35 store. I had a small club repair done...no biggie...but when I told the guy I needed it quick....he pushed me ahead of the line. I told him I could putz around for an hour or so but he was done super quick......and no charge. That was nice. I really don't get the club bug when I'm there cuz everything has to be custom fit/ordered so I was really looking for clothes. I walked out with another pair of Ecco's for $50. Sweeeeeeeet.

Then I stopped at Edwin Watts. :troll face: That place was like a morgue.

Does every retailer think that women only want pink hats? and rhinestones.....wtf is up with that?

:D

They are both VERY nice stores; literally have at least one of EVERYTHING! And it sounds like they will be a player in the "used" club space.

My golf buddies love their "X- day playability guarantee"????

They do seem to have some good deals there.......................

BUT, It will be interesting to see how they get through all of that inventory! Major Clearance events? Tent Sales? we will know in 4-6 Q's! Unfortunately, I have to predict failure, but we will see.

Care to elaborate?? We have some in Myrtle Beach and Atlanta both of which I visit and I am always looking at used clubs.

I simply think that it's important to play in that space- take trade ins and sell them, I know some stores take their trades straight to the auction site, but I think it is a huge mistake to 1) not sell used clubs and 2) to not take trade ins.
