Country Club of Roswell Insights

Hello All,

My wife and I are considering joining CCR and I couldn't find much information on the club here. We live in Roswell and based on what we are looking for Brookfield and CCR are the only ones we are looking at. We are a family of 5 with 3 daughters 6 or younger. We believe CCR meets our needs from a budget, proximity, family friendly atmosphere perspective and is a place our friends could join as well.

I'm probably close to an 18 index at the moment as I haven't been playing much at all but can get it down to a 10 or 12 if I start to get out again. I drive around 240-250 carry, hit a 7 160 and a PW around 125 to give you a reference for my length relative to the course.

I'll be out there to play sometime in the next two weeks but was wondering if any people here play there and what they think about the course, atmosphere, is there a fair amount of members in their 30s and 40s, do people tend to walk, ride, push/pull cart, any other general insight to the course, membership, food, tennis, pool.... Any input is appreciated.

Thanks

Brookfield is Club Corp, so you will get some playing privileges at some other clubs close by.

Can't say much anything about either track though.

Horseshoe Bend and Rivermont are also in that neck of the woods. I've never played RM, just have had Sunday brunch there, but people say good things about it.

I heard they are doing major renovations at horseshoe, namely the clubhouse I believe.

CCR is member owned.

It's short and a bit quirky. Not a huge fan of the course but it's in good shape. Good people and mostly older.

I would look at horeshoe bend IMO.

Brookfield gives you access to Country club of the south, manor, white columns, Atl national, polo, windemere, laurel springs, bears best, etc.

Thank you for the responses.

My wife has a close friend at CCR so it is ahead by a wide margin at this point. The priority is really the social part, pool and the junior golf/tennis and swim team for the kids. The golf part is really solely an add on for me where I am thinking for only a marginal increase we can do the complete membership which is then worth it to me so I can have the flexibility to play whenever since my schedule is all over the place. I'm really trying to figure out if I'll be content with the course for a while and if I'll find people around my age out there playing...

My suggestion, make the wife and kids happy !

I know there is a mens league there that plays 9 holes every ____ of the week. Starts at 5-6pm during the summer. Very member oriented and well run. Tennis programs are strong too.

Prob the best all around of the two you're considering. Brookfield just gives you more access to golf. CCR had a better track IMO.

I've been a member at both Brookfield and CCR. We actually just canceled our CCR membership just because we are to busy to be able to get out there it's been 3 months and every weekend is just booked out with other things both work and personal related. That said CCR is a vastly superior club to Brookfield.

Brookfield was decent before the club corp buy out but everything and I mean everything got worse with brookfield after the club corp buy out. I heard the remodel is finally done and it's nice but they are over crowded long rounds, and the food has gone downhill. I've heard that they raised their fees too, and on the club corp earnings call they mentioned raising fees across the board in the Atlanta market.

CCR is awesome, food is phenomenal. Course is fantastic, staff was great, tons and tons of events. The MGA is fantastic with weekly 9 hole events and monthly 18 hole events. Great group of guys. The complex and whatnot is nicer as well. Tennis is very active. For my though, I don't play tennis, and I have no interest in the pool I have the HOA pool 2 doors down from my house that I rarely use I just want golf. We are under 40 and the 411 a month was reasonable, but after 40 it jumped to 620 or 640 and there was no way we were staying. I just can't get 640 bucks a month of value out of that type of investment when we just want to golf, and dine now and then and we both have full time jobs that take a lot of time.

We are still under 40 for a few more years. It will be a tough decision to make at that point. However the Tuesday night mens league, pool facility, etc...will make it tough if not impossible to leave. The people really make the club and this includes the staff. For kind of a mid-level club, CCR is tough to beat for the total package. There is not an ounce of pretentiousness in that place, very laid back, welcoming and friendly.

I'd agree with everything you said.. But the dues are super steep.

The course layout and conditions aren't worth anywhere close to $500 per month. It's short, quirky, and some of the greens are laughable. Driving range/practice facility is below average as well.

However, the members and recent clubhouse renovations are awesome.

There are many clubs without "a*******" around Atlanta in the $300-500 range with way better layouts. Just my 2 cents.

I guess I look at it differently...I would not have been able to sell joining a club if it didn't offer a great family experience. My wife loves the tennis at CCR...the pool is killer...we love going there for dinner and brunch. Of all of the clubs we looked at, it was the one the wife gave the seal of approval to...so it was most likely CCR or nothing for me. With the friends we've made and the laidback attitude, it has been a huge hit with the family.

The driving range is small, bit its never really crowded, so I don't see that as a huge minus. The pitching, chipping and putting areas of the practice facility are actually quite nice and well maintained. The greens are some of the best around since the switch to champions bermuda. Its not a monster course by any means but it is a par 71...thats not crazy short. We pay $411 per month and for us...at least...it has been worth every penny.

My wife plays ALTA and USTA there and during the season we are at the pool every weekend we are in town.
