Opening stance to fix pull hooks.

I've been attacked by a sudden and very nasty case of he pull hooks in recent times, caused it seems by coming over the top.

 

After trying and failing to keep my right elbow tucked, coming straight back, keeping my shoulder under my chin, aiming right etc etc, today I decided to try opening my stance as if I was trying to hit a fade. Normally I draw everything. The theory was that if I was going to miss left, at least it would be less left with a fade.

 

So, I started using an exaggerated open stance, whilst still swing straight. This seemed to work very well and it did feel like I was swinging through rather than across my body.

 

My questions is whether this is just a band-aid or something I should explore more.

Your alignment may have originally been closed. If you body is closed to the target, it is very easy to develop the 'pull' motion across your body. I don't think it sounds like a bandaid. Check your alignment, identify if your body lines are parallel to your target line.

-check your grip make sure it's not too strong

- check your path, drop a head cover just inside the target line as close to the ball as possible while allowing enough room for proper contact, if you're coming from the inside, you'll knock it ten miles

- alignment and setup, a lot of golfers actually line up right of their intended target, either you pull the shot back on-line via over the top or miss right, that pull can turn into something worse like a snapper

- make sure you're not too laid off at the top of your swing
