Moving to Augusta area, I will need a new home course...

So, I am moving in 6 weeks to Georgia. I will be living in Evans and need to find a new home course. I am looking for recommendations. However, I cannot afford some high cost initiation fee. Lets see what you all recommend.

I'd ask to see the financials first, and any hidden fees like FB minimums. Are carts or caddies included? And if the course closes for outside events - FORGET IT!!

I've heard that the dues are much lower than you'd expect.

Living in Evans, I think your best bet will be Bartram Trail. It's a good course and normally in good condition.

 

I would avoid Jones Creek. Not a good design, very tight as it runs through a neigborhood, and always seems to have drainage issues. Also, a TERRIBLE course to walk.

 

The other good public/semi-private courses are River Club and Savannah Lakes, but both would be a bit of a drive from Evans. Savannah Lakes has 36 holes and used to host a Hooters Tour event if I remember correctly. Forest Hills is a little closer, but the other two are better courses.

 

As far as private courses go, Champions Retreat and West Lake are closest to Evans. Both will have "high" initiation fees for the area. But if you're coming from Monterey, CA, you may not consider them expensive.

Thanks, I will look into Bartram trail. That is really good info about Jones Creek. Exactly what I am trying to find out. I am active duty military, coming from Monterey as a duty station, not a financial disposition. :)

The dues and initiation is very minimal. It's getting the invite which is reserved for the highly regarded.

That sounds great. I am sure I will play there some but it looks like a 30 plus minute drive from my house, so I am also looking closer. But it may still be the best option.
