Are You Still Happy/Unhappy?

Since there are no new posts in the SkyCaddie Touch thread since last May, I thought I would ask if anything has changed since. My old SkyCaddie is on it's last legs and I need to upgrade. I want a unit that has the capability to move the cursor on screen to show distance to that spot and the remainder to the hole.

Should I get the Touch or locate a used SGX, perhaps? I still have a couple of years left on my subscription, so another brand does not interest me. (Besides, I like the accuracy of the SkyCaddies.)

Thanks for your input!

I've been very happy with the Touch (purchased 7/2015). I've been a longtime SkyCaddie user (5 models), so I knew enough to sit out the initial (beta) period where they release the product before it's ready for prime time.

Coming from the SGXw, I thought the Touch was too small. While I would like the screen to be slightly bigger, I've come to appreciate the form factor. I used to catch the SGXw on the golf cart handle frequently, as it was a large device hanging on my belt. I haven't had it happen with the Touch.

The software has been stable for the past few releases, and I haven't had any serious sync issues, other than the usual need to re-install the cr*ppy CaddieSync drivers, which has been a major sore spot with all SkyCaddie devices.

Given that the Touch comes pre-loaded with all U.S. courses, I really don't have to sync that often. I have yet to find a real benefit to the "HD" courses, as they provide little improvement over the built-in course maps.

One beef I have with the Touch is that the screen does not support multi-finger operations (e.g. pinch to zoom), or dragging. Given that most of us use modern smartphones with these capabilities, it does seem a bit of a step backwards. That's not to say the Touch is unusable, but it would be nice to be able to pinch to zoom rather than use the +/- button. Also, being able do reposition the center of the display by dragging would be nice.

I'd say go for it. You'll always run the risk of getting a dud from SkyGolf. Of the 5 models I went through before the Touch, I frequently need one to two replacements before I got a device that worked properly. Their QA has sucked rocks since the beginning.

When you say you used to catch the SGX on the cart handle, are you talking about a push cart or riding cart? I walk primarily using a push cart, so I will just get a cart mount for it.

Thanks for the reply.

Getting out of a riding cart. 'Not an issue with the pushcart.

I think the biggest selling point on the Touch is the built-in database of courses. If you play a lot of different courses, the SGX's limit on the number of courses that can be stored is very frustrating, as it requires constant syncing. If you only play a handful of courses, it's not a showstopper.

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
