Public courses around Pasadena

Going to play a round somewhere around Pasadena in a couple of weeks. Have played Brookside before and wasn't impressed. RIght now I'm leaning towards Oak Quarry.

Any other good courses reasonably priced not too far from Pasadena out there?

Best bang for the buck is probably Rustic Canyon. It's probably about 45mins or so from Pasadena depending on the time of day.

Angeles National isn't too far away but can get pricey.

Rustic is great but is definitely a solid hour plus. Would have to have optimal traffic to get there in 45... which is essentially never in socal.

Oak quarry is just as far. I prefer oak quarry over Rustic, but Rustic is the more "critically acclaimed" course. Its the more players (and links type) course, but oak quarry I enjoyed the layout, the elevation changes, and the views. Rustic should be cheaper than oak quarry.

I like angeles national a lot. Great condition usually. Priciest of the three, but will have the better pace of play usually because its not booked out (because of price).

As stated Angeles National good course and will test your shotmaking; 20 minutes away. I'll throw in Sierra Lakes. Forgiving course and always in good shape. I'll also mention Goose Creek. All courses mentioned outside of Angeles National will be 45 minutes to 1 hr in good traffic conditions. Too bad about Brookside it's gone down some in recent times IMHO. Historically significant courses though.

Thanks for all replies. Are there really that few courses within half hour of Pasadena?

The ones mentioned are the best of the publics. There are privates. Others are Wilson and Harding at Griffith park about 30 minutes away but a lot like brookside. Take a look at the two courses at Industry Hills they are pretty nice and about 30-40 minutes away. Alhambra is about 15 minutes away short and quirky but fun to play and usually in good shape. Just depends on what you are looking for.
