DVD copying/ripping software?

I have some DVD that I want to copy and/or rip into video file so I can play on my computer.

I use Magic DVD Ripper (http://www.magicdvdripper.com/). It has options to make a full backup copy, i.e. Video_TS directory, or convert the video to numerous formats, e.g. WMV, MP4, DixX.

 

I believe the free trial allows for 5 rips. I purchased the full copy, and have made copies of my DVD collection, close to 400 discs.

What am I missing? As far as I'm aware, VLC does not copy or rip DVDs.

Not sure if this is exactly what the OP wants, though. I have used vlc to help rip the audio tracks from my Yoga DVDs so I could listen to the routines with my MP3 player.

OK, thanks. I wasn't aware that VLC had a command-line option for ripping. A bit of a pain, though. MakeMKV was another free option mentioned. I haven't used it (yet), but I've read good things about it.
