Caddy recommendations for St Andrews trip

Hello all,

 

I have two foursomes going to Saint Andrews in early May. We are playing:

 

Sat: Carnoustie Burnside

Sun: Gelneagles Kings course

Mon: Old Course

Tues: New

Wed: Castle

Thurs:Jjubilee

Fri: Carnoustie champions course

 

3 of us have been before and played most of the courses listed except for the Castle Course and Gleneagles.

 

Our last trip in 2006 I had mixed results w caddies. Some had fine course knowledge...others were just there to carry the bag.

 

We are probably getting individual caddies for the Old Course, Gleneagles, and Carnoustie Champions. Do any of the locals here have specific caddies they can recommend? (If so, what's the best way to request them?)

 

We are probably just renting trollies or carrying our own bags at the other courses. From what I've read here, it sounds like a forecaddy might be a good idea at Castle Course due to some of the blind/quirky shots? Or maybe even individual caddies since it sounds hillier? Any advice?

Can't speak to specific caddies at Carnoustie or Gleneagles, but have played them both with caddies and thought they did a good job. I've played the Old a few times, and can give you two names that I think are great, if you can get them... Jimmie Reid and Nicky Finley. Both have carried for decades, and that experience is better than the round itself.

 

For my two cents, consider caddies at the Castle too. It's a hike!

 

FYI, I am also of the opinion that if I had to choose one course at Gleneagles, I would choose the King's Course over the PGA. My foursome would agree, not even a close call.

We got around Castle fine w electric push carts, the pulled us up some hills

Perfect! We will try to get them. I agree, great caddies can certainly make a round entertaining as well as informative.

 

We are playing the Kings course at Gleneagles. It seems most here are of the same opinion.

They have those motorized push carts? Excellent!

 

We could certainly manage a hilly course with those. Out of curiosity, do you recall what they charge for those? I didn't see it on the website.
