Real Leather Toney Penna Golf Bag

I have wanted a real leather vintage bag for a while to hold my classic clubs and I finally found one that I wanted - on eBay I managed to win a 'Real Leather Toney Penna Golf Club Carry Bag'. To be honest it looks much more like a 70/80's cart bag and it does seem to be real leather rather than vinyl/PU - there is a stamp saying real leather on the bag and the wear looks like a leather type wear rather an a vinyl/PU type wear. Either way at £9.98 with the postage it is worth the risk. Cannot wait for it to arrive and get my Slazenger/Hogan persimmon woods, my Wilson Staff sets and my vintage putters in it.

That is a nice old bag. It can be detailed up a little with some shoe polish and TLC or you can leave it like it is a battle scarred veteran which I personally prefer. Seems like from the photo you may have a problem with one of the zippers. On zippers I use WD-40 because it will work fine and is not oily and will not attract dirt or stain the fabric. On the bag divider you can go to a thrift store and find a ladies belt cheap and re do that or take one out of an old bag. I would guess that bag is 70s vintage

"Genuine Leather" is, despite the fancy name, one of poorer grades of leather. It's still real leather, but has artificial grain pattern applied to the surface. But for that price I still think you did good!

Thanks for the information. I realise it is not the best leather but basically, this side of the pond, other than some real ancient and most unusable golf bags from the 30's you never see any real leather golf bags. Virtually all bags of this ilk from 60's onward were vinyl of latterly PU.

I just won a bag on ebay that was listed as leather, queried it with the seller and they said they "thought it was leather" but I could inspect before buying.

 

I was nearby for work so dropped by and as suspected it was vinyl.

But it was a Toney Penna slim carry bag in good condition and ideal for my hickories so I bought it anyway.

What I like about it is that it looks pretty old but it has a decent sized side pocket, which most old bags don't.

 

(Came with a set of clubs too but they were all junk and will be going to the charity shop)

Cool story. Mine s definitely leather but is battered. I can live without the club divider but many of the pocket linings are missing. However as this bag will be used sparingly it is not too much of an issue.

Personally I doubt that is leather and I am happy for the time being with the Penna. Thanks for the tip though (yes, UK based)

OP that bag is fantastic. fill it full of era appropriate sticks and head on off to the 1st tee!
