Howdy,

 

Hope this post will find some people who are struggling with everything putting.

 

My advice to you, go to a longer putter! I haven't putt better in my life and am currently using a 38" putter. I don't anchor, I don't use two grips. I just use a really long shafted putter. *Taylormade Spider Mallet 72 with a counter balance grip (stock) I'm barely 6'0 tall and I'm in less pain

 

I see a lot of people switching grips multiple times, changing lies, adding sight lines, changing balls, etc... Maybe help the Indian and not the arrow by fixing your posture. Keep it simple stupid, try a longer putter.

 

My justifications include:

 

1. Comfort- If you are not comfortable hunched over, stand up. If you can't be comfortable you can't make repeatable strokes throughout the round.

 

2. Fatigue- Save your back and knees a little bit. Over 4 hours you can get sore and tight without recognizing it. We aren't all 23 year olds in perfect shape.

 

3. Eyes- One thing I have found is I am a much better putter at shorter ranges because I can see the hole in my peripheral vision better and that helps with distance control.

 

4. Options- Every once in a while, you can drop your hands down the grip to a shorter length if you are really feeling the heat. I used to do this, but now keep my hands pretty high on the grip on every putt.

My brother uses a 38" Odyssey and is great with it. It's actually a bit frustrating since he doesn't ever practice, yet still putts way better than I do (I still beat him though). As for me, my Nike used to be 34 inches and I was terrible. Then I extended it to 35.5 (more like 35.75) and I am doing much better, so I have seen the merits of a longer putter and I agree with you. Although, I don't hate cats. :rolleyes:
