pull/hook

what is the cause of it?

i have hit a fade my entire golfing career. i NEVER saw the left side of the golf course. now, for some reason, i sneak in a pull, pull/hook, hook into my golf bag. i can fix a massive slice, and fades that fade too much, but how do you fix the other flight? hips? hands? what?

i've never encountered it, so i have no idea how to fix.

One or a few of your set up has changed, recheck your basics.

Physical condition may or maynot cause it, if you had been working out and be able to come through the ball stronger, that could also have some influnce to it. Or the oposite, if your condition is less than before, you may once in awhile feel the need to come through the ball stronger, and cause the hook.

A more responsive shaft, could also be the cause.

 

Check the fundamental elements first, if you could not find the cause, seek help from a certified PGA teaching professional. A good teacher should be able to spot the cause of the problem in one session.

I had an episode with it and it was mostly my grip and getting handsy. Trying to turn the head over with my hands. I had my left V pointing towards my chin with the thumb inline with the head square. My right was to the right of my chin. I moved my left V more towards my right shoulder, clockwise. Then moved the right V counter clockwise pointing towards my chin. Not only did this have me back to slight fade with a higher trajectory but also seemed to fix that tendency to get handsy as well. Now I feel like the clubhead is just squaring naturally, don't even think about it.

 

Give it a check and see if that grip has gone strong on you. To me it's kind of like the 1st check and more than usual is the culprit.

sounds like you are flipping, in otherwords just before you strike the ball on your down swing, your left wrist is collapsing. From someone that plays a draw as a stock shot. If you let that left wrist break down and flip the right over. All you are going to get is a shot moving left. It can even be left to left. Those are the worst. Been there done that.

Identify the path of the club swinging into the ball. If you are coming outside to in, then you are simply squaring/closing the face to the path it is being swung upon.

That makes sense to me - over the top is the pull and shutting the face is a hook.

 

Trying to determine if it's a double cross.. Is the ball flight high or low????

 

My friend got into the pulls because he stop turning according to him and his instuctor: He did a drill where he hit balls and made sure his back was to the target - then his right shoulder was in front of his left through impact..

 

He is hitting it well now : big stong kid that hits long !!!

thanks gang. i am going to visit my "hands" and see if that is the trick. i think that may be the culprit. i'll keep you posted.
