HELP me?

 

hi there guys.

At the moment im currently working on 2 things. The first is that of flattening my shaft angle of the down swing, however my first movement in my downsing is that of my right elbow going straight down towards my right hip which keeps the shaft angle quite steep and is also meaning i am getting stuck quite alot in my downswing.

 

Secondly my right foot is still on the floor at impact so i presume i am loosing a great deal of power and not striking the ball as well as i should be doing, but i cant seem to get the weight shift right on my downswing, ie i dont know if my like chest should move towards the target as well as like my hips if you understand.

 

if i have not explained properly please question me and i will try and answer as best i can.

also i notice that just as im reaching the top of my backswing my right leg seems to be straightening and my body almost like straightening up.

any help??

Patience would be a good start.

 

Regarding your right foot, assuming you are right handed...

 

I would recommend experimenting with the impact drill.

 

From a normal, balanced stance...

 

1. Lean into forward side.

2. Lift right heel off ground while kicking right knee slightly in towards the ball.

3. Start swing from this position, do no allow weight to shift to your back foot.

A: On your take away, use your shoulders creating a once piece motion to keep 1 plane, try and keep the hands quiet. It sounds as though you may be "laying off" starting to far inside at mid takeaway and flattening out.

Keeping your elbow tucked against your hip is fine, the closer the better actually but, this only works if your hip movement and shoulder rotation are in unison. Firing the hips first will get you stuck everytime making your shoulders late. Just vizualize rotating the shoulders, once you get to the top. Uncoil naturaly thinking little about your hips, they will open up and uncoil on their own, you physically cannot unwind without your hips moving first just focus on the shoulder rotation. Flat left rist, hands high and away from the head, relaxed wrists to establish a lag to enhance ball striking keeping the hands infront of the clubhead.

A: Your right foot should remain on the ground partially but not flat, since the motion of the golf swing resembles so many other actions such as a pitcher throwing a ball, or a player attempting a slapshot in hockey, think of what the right foot is doing! It is being used as a lever to move the body toward the target and generate power.

also when i have like hit the ball my right knee seems to collapse then my bum like lowers to once the ball has been struck.

any ideas why this might be happening?

It sure sounds like a reverse pivot to me? Could not be certain, you'll need to have someone look at it for you or look at yourself in a full length mirror.

 

Try to point the butt end of your club at the golf ball ( or just inside of the golf ball, closer to your toes) during the take away and coming backdown.

no definitely not a reverse pivot, im off 5 so not horrific just not good.

only been playin 2 years tho.

could it be anything to do with like poor core and weak leg muscles?

If you're scoring well, why let it bother you?

I'd definitely let a certified PGA teaching pro to take a look at it if it's improtant to you.

However, I would not mess with a swing which I could repeat time after time.

i just turned using my shoulders and i get in a good position half way back then get laid off, i then only focused on turning my shoulders on the way down and was still stuck. tut. i will keep trying.
