Is Tiger moving away from Haneys model?

...but I'm no expert. He looked more erect in his posture and his swing plane didn't seem as flat as earlier in the year. My imagination?

I agree. His posture looked more upright and he appeared to be standing closer to the ball.....really close to the ball.

few great players were able to pull off that flat "one plane" swing...ben hogan being the most prominent. in my opinion, i kinda thought that haney's one plane swing was just going to be a passing fad, but what do i know. i am admitedly not a golf expert, but i've always thought that the so-called two plane swing works better for just about everyone (pros included).

 

i know that few are pure one or two planers as defined by haney, but i think most would be better off incorporating a bigger proportion of two plane characteristics. that haney seems to imply that the two plane swing is for physically weak and unathletic people perplexes me though. tiger has always done better with a steeper swing, and some of the other "athletes" on tour - adam scott, villegas, are two planers...

Mind you that Adam Scott, Tiger and Villegas are stepping toward the flatter "one plane"-ish swing to gain consistency and more distance.

I don't care what anyone saids ... you can draw circles around any swing and define it one or two plane: I think it was a marketing tool to sell tapes!!

 

Tigar is better off by himself until he need someone!! I bet Steve Williams knows what works for Tigar and if he needs help make a phone call to get a third pair of eyes.

 

Think way back when(long time ago) with a posture fix it was a posture fix (addressing the ball): to stand closer to the ball it was : stand closer to the ball oh pick u r hands up - Hogan was not slouched over I am no expert but they are changing the words that's all!!!

 

I have been looking at some old "golf instructors material Books" whatever these new guys saying they are just changing the words.

 

I picked up an old Toski book that was my late dads and I ll tell you it's fundamentals are just great..simple. I have also added another twenty five yards to my tee ball with this book...just using one simple swing thought .. or things he makes you aware!!

i'm not sure what scott and villegas are working towards, but i was under the impression that tiger's latest swing change incorporated a more upright address position with a steeper arm angle at the top of the backswing.

I think that maybe you're confusing Hank Haney with Jim Hardy.

I think that maybe you're confusing Hank Haney with Jim Hardy.

 

Yep, I don't think Haney refers to one- and two-plane swings. Watch videos of Steve Elkington or Jack Nicklaus, or Davis Love III then watch video of most modern players. Then tell me there's no difference. Jim Hardy is the guy who really uses the one vs two plane distinction but most moderan players are much closer to what Hardy refers to as a one-plane swing than a two-plane swing. More bent over, less upward movement of the arms, arms shoulders and clubs on a single plane, finish is at the ear or below the ear. The classic two-plane swingers finished high. There is a real difference.

Tiger STILL seems to VERY MUCH be a One Plane Swinger! I disagree with posts that say a 2 plane swing is better for most or is THE only swing to use, just as I do with posts that say a one plane swing or S&T, TGM method are best and the only one to use.

 

By the way, MOST of the best ball strikers in the history of the game (Moe N., Hogan, Snead, O'Grady, etc.) used a one plane type swing and the 1 plane vs. 2 plane swings really are different enough. It doesn't mean that you HAVE to use one or the other but there is enough evidence to say that they are different and do exist.

 

It's not for people to determine what others should use, we live in a free land and people should be able to choose what they want to swing like and what works best for them. I am continually surprised at the elitism that goes on in life where people are constantly pointing at others and telling them that they have to be like them in order to be worth something or to get something right. When did GOD decide to step off of the throne and promote us?? LOL!!

 

If you like the 2 plane swing great, if you like the 1 plane swing great. Saying that something doesn't exist because we don't like it, haven't experienced it, it didn't work for us or our buddies, our pro says its bunk, or we don't agree with it doesn't make it the truth, it just registers as our opinion.
