DIY indoor putting green - Project Code Name 'Draino'

Good day to my fellow ho's,

 

I need some advise, url's, etc on building your own indoor putting practice green. I have seen many images on Google where guys are framing what appears to be a putter 'platform', laying sheets of what appears to be 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch sheet plywood and then laying artificial turf down.

 

Winter is coming so I have the time and I have a huge unfinished basement. Per wife there are only a few requirements; 1) Can't look like s*** which is most of my carpentry 2) it can't cost a billion dollars 3) no longterm maintenance costs and no major alterations to integrity of basement - basically, it can't have an irrigation system, multiple levels and install won't require a jackhammer. My only requirement is that I create a surface that isn't a 25 on the stemp and can somewhat replicate a real putting surface. I also have a space of 20ft width and 40ft length so I want a good size surface.

 

General recommendations will do such as materials and how to create subtle/realistic slope would be ideal. I don't need major project blue prints. I appreciate any help anyone may provide. BTW we only have 7 foot ceilings down there otherwise I would incorporate a simulator and chipping...

What are your thoughts for the putting surface?

 

I've got a 2'x15' strip of the starpro putting turf you can order through home depot. My major beef with it is that it's designed to be used on on artificial green that is rolled and sand filled. Without doing those things, I think it's bumpy, and slow.

 

Especially with having such a large area, I'd consider an indoor-outdoor carpet product. This thread has a pretty good example of what to use.

I'm thinking about going to a local carpet store to have them make me a rug from whatever product I can find that's similar.

I have a 7 x 12 star pro green. I did not sand or roll it and it’s rolls really well. BTW DO NOT order star pro turf from Home Depot. They lost the first roll, order another and they lost that one also. I took me a month to get my roll because of all the issues with Home Depot. I got sick of them playing games so I ordered it directly from star pro and received it in 4 days. Just my experience.
