Ping G LS Tec + Tour 80 stiff

Hi experts!

 

I have the opportunity to pick up a 9 deg Ping G LS Tec driver with a Stiff Ping Tour 80 shaft. I'm tempted, but unsure because I'm 63, 5 handicap and have a swing speed between 85 and 90 mph.

 

Do I have enough to make this driver work, or is it back to the gym and get fitter?

Going off what you have in your current signature...not a good fit

 

G LS with Ping Tour 80 shaft is a low launch / low spin combo ,

made to fit an agressive swinger of the club , with swing speed in

the range of 100 to 110 mph and has issues with high spin rates.

Well, I do have a bit of an issue with high spin, so that's good news. The rest is what I suspected.......

To round this off:

 

Bought the driver as the price was just too good. I've set it up at 10 degrees and I'm hitting it really well. Mid height gentle draws another 20 yards than before. Still going to have to go to the gym though. Playing and carrying up here on the edge of Salisbury Plain in the winter with the cold wind blowing is killing me!

I'm 63 and my driver SS is in your range. I play stiff in driver only . . . regular in fwy. woods and regular soft-stepped one club in irons. It seems that usually OEM shafts play a little soft to flex, though I also hit off-the-shelf shafts in S flex pretty well. Glad your purchase has worked out well for you.

Its so player dependant... I have a swing speed around 93. I have a Ping G30 SF Tec and played a 44" Tour Stiff 80g as well. Played a little stiffer even since it was cut down to 44". I dont load all that hard either but the shaft was great. I think it will fit a variety of players its very stable.

 

I didnt care for the LS head, just not as forgiving for me. That 80g shaft weight can sometimes help players feel the club and shallow out a little better, so dont let the weight turn you off until you try it. At your speed, the R flex may match up better with the LS head, but if you have good results with the stiff, cant argue with that!

 

The Ping Tour shaft is a much better performer than the standard TFC blue they offered. I picked up 7mph of ball speed on the Tour stiff over the stock TFC blue stiff..
