A few ideas.

I use this hammer, in three different weights, depending on the size of the stamp I am striking. Full Disclosure: I was a framing carpenter for 26 years, so the 24 Oz model is plenty for me. I have the benefit of zero fear of striking my fingers or thumbs and swing the hammer fairly hard. I'm not saying that I never hit my fingers, just that it never keeps me from that first THWACK! LOL.

This company makes decent stamps if you are striking carbon steel or copper/brass putters. I would not recommend them for stainless steel models, though.

Same brand, but the premium level:

I have some new stamps in the shop that have the name of the maker on them, but I cannot recall and the shop is 45 minutes away, LOL. I'll try to find the name and post it, here.

infinity stamps makes a decent product but you are going to have to grind down the edges around your design for good strikes. just know that different metals are going to want different things. Stainless is a pain in the a**. thats why all the ball marker people who have popped up all over instagram use copper. copper can be handstamped by taking viagra and using that as a hammer :cheesy:. carbon is not as tough but nothing comes close to stainless....except damasucus. really stamped is all about a good stamping base. you want the object being stamped to take 100% of the force given. if you have a wooden work bench with a vice on it the bounce from the wood is going to take away some of your thunder on the stamp. buy a decent anvil and some double sided tape and youre good to go

Out of curiosity I did a google search and found lots of metal stamp letter / numeral sets. Industrial supply outfits like Travers tool and ENCO that cater to metalworkers have them. I was in the machinist racket for a few years and used both suppliers for tools .

I found this site that has symbols: www.ImpressArt.com

Looks like you will have plenty of options. Have fun with your project.

Thanks for the reply. I am an auto technician so I have quite a variety of hammers. Most are heavier than 24 ounces. At least I'm pretty sure I don't have a 24oz ballpeen dead blow but I can get one for sure

Thanks for the replys. I'm probably going to practice on some cheap putters first then the main project will most likely will be a Scotty Newport 2. I want to stamp the toe on the face is the main place. Then possibly in some paint fill in the weights.

Being an auto tech I have access to vices and solid work benches. Also was planning on using the grinder to taper the stamp kind of like a punch.
