Valhalla, but its pricey. And you have to pay a caddy if you ride a cart or not. Persimmon Ridge is another one. They are like no 1 and no 2 in the state. Audubon is a good one. Bellarmine College has a semi private course. Iroquois is the best city owned course. Its public. Their is a course in Elizabethtown, called Pine Valley. They used to have a Hogan tour event. Which is nationwide tour today. Thats been a few years. Its about 45 min drive from the watterson expressway. Which is close to the airport. Quail Chase is another public course in the eastern part of the county. The Cardinal Club, Vahalla, and Persimmon Ridge are all private. You will need to your PGA pro to call. Then its still hard. If you have the time, then you can drive down to Campbellsville Country Club. We have one PGA tour player that plays out of there. And in the past have had a LPGA player from there. She no longer plays competitive golf. Our course is rated 5 stars. They are going to areate the greens on monday nite Sept the 3rd. I have to have a cancer place taken off my shoulder on the 17th of Sept. But any time in between, you are more than welcome to come down and play a round. Our greens average just a little over 2000 square feet. This course was built many years ago. Contact me if you are interested.

not sure when you last played up here, but iroquois is clearly not the best city course. charlie vettiner and then seneca are the two best city courses. $25 with a cart on the weekdays and $28 on the weekends. quail runs $45 but wasn't in great shape last weekend. not horrible, but not great. if you play quail you need to play the west/east courses. i've heard heritage hill was nice but haven't played it yet. the crossings is in good shape, and it's a very short and easy course. nevel meade runs $45 and is a nice links layout.

as for driving ranges, it depends on where you are staying. if you are downtown, there is a driving range on river road. there are a few others scattered around the city as well. check out http://www.dsgolfcenters.com/.

yes i have only played the cardinal club, valhalla, and persimmon ridge in the last so many years. i used to play skins with some guys and we played at some of the city owned courses. i do know that the bobby nichols golf course off dixie was a bad one at one time. someone told me its fairly nice now. I have had invites to go play the three courses mentioned. its about the same drive from where i live to lexington or to louisville. and i like the lexington courses better. so my bad on that one. the original poster. i hope u can find a place to play and have fun. welcome to kentucky

i haven't played cardinal club yet, but valhalla and persimmon are definitely worth the drive. we played persimmon on sunday... fairways and tees are in great shape. rough can be a little spotty due to the lack of rain. greens rolled very true, but old ballmarks didn't seem to be healing very well... again because of the lack of rain. i've heard the renovations on valhalla ahead of the ryder cup have made it a beast. it's playing 7500 yards, and they re-did a couple of greens. i believe they eliminated the dual fairway on #7 as well. hoping to play it in on the 13th or 14th if a friend can come through.

I'd suggest my home course....Old Capital Golf Club. 30 mins from Louisville.

Seneca....not very good shape right now. Just played it last week.

Heritage Hill is VERY nice for $50.

Nevel Meade is always is great shape.

Covered Bridge and Champions Point are Fuzzy's tracks.

Good Luck. Plenty of good golf here.

The dual fairway on 7 is still there; however, the marshy area is gone and replaced by a lake. Now, on six, they have pushed the green back 50-60 yrds so you have at least 200 in if you hit a PERFECT drive!

I remember Nevel Meade being pretty good on the public side, Fuzzy's course, Covered Bridge was good too. Of course, if you can get on Valhalla, would highly recommend.

I really enjoyed visiting Louisville last fall. While I was there I played Quail Chase, Sun Valley, Henry County Country Club, Penn Run, and Different Strokes Twin Lakes. I REALLY enjoyed Quail Chase. I did not have the time to play more than I had hoped but enjoyed myselfl non the less. Thanks for all the recommendations!!

South and west. The west is what sold me on this as my favorite out of the trip. Number nine was awesome!

Wow #9 really was your favorite. The only good hole on the west course is #2. East is the players nine, South is next and west is the easy, dinky nine they just threw in there. Much better courses (Public and Private) in the area, wish you could have gotten a better representation of golf in Louisville.
