Meeting other golfers

Thanks to my job, I'll be spending a couple of months down in St. Augustine. I don't know anyone there...well, outside of the people I work with. Sadly, none of them play golf. Anyway, it's been a while since I've been somewhere for an extended period of time and had to try and meet other golfers to play with. Have any of you ever used an app or website to try and find local golf buddies?

You just show up at a course as a single, and they'll pair you with someone. I do it all the time. In fact, I hardly ever play pre-arranged rounds.

You can try to find local Facebook pages for the area you’re looking for. I’m on a few to find ppl in my area to golf with.

 

Also GolfWRX has a travel forum under the “Bag Room” section. Then it’s broken down into regions. This is great for advice on courses and possibly meeting up with other members on here.

I have to agree I’ve had some really fun rounds playing as a single with people I just met on the first tee.

This^^^^ One time I got paired with another single that was walking 9 and I was walking 18. We had so much fun after 9 he went in to try to pay for another 9 to keep it going but they wouldn't take his money and told him to just go play. Win win.

Just show up and play. I don't even make Tee times in summer. The courses are wide open. Saturday I went 0 for 2 on the both kids so I went out solo. Ran into another single on 7 who was stuck in traffic. We finished the round together and had a fun time. This happens more often than not in the summer in Fl. If you hit it off, make plans to play again. If its a local course you play often chances are you will see them again anyway.

If you are looking for money games, Tuesday men's leagues etc. I would suggest picking a local course and talk to the pro. Everything goes through him.

Just show up and play with whatever group of honks is standing around. Those kind of situations are always good for a few good stories.

Thanks for all of your suggestions! I'll definitely be trying out the spontaneous approach many of you suggested and just try to pair up with someone at the course the day of. I have to admit though, I'm a big fan of having a plan laid out. A friend recently suggested I check out the site Leisure Clique to try and find golf partners ahead of time. I just signed up for that and a few St. Augustine Facebook groups like @orion1123 suggested. Thanks again, everyone!
