The rarest of all Birds

515yrds, up hill, dog log = 2 shots ?????????

It is with great pride that i'm telling you all this tale,

I was stood on the tee of the 13th a 515yrd par 5, with a slight dog leg left and up hill approach, driver in hand at Houghwood GC (St helens,UK,) .Place a drive on the left hand side of the fairway at around 297 yards, took my 22deg hibore out of the bag and hit a solid shot right at the flag.
My playing partners all commented how well struck the shot was, as we walked up to the elevated green my ball was nowhere in sight so i started digging round in the rough at the back of the green thinking all the while that this was a bit unfair after hitting a great shot, When one of my playing partners asked 'is it a taylormade tp red No. 3 with a black dot?' i replied 'yep' .
He reached down in to the hole and pulled out my ball, i went crazy , i couldn't believe it 515 yards 2 shots, an albatross, WOW.
I went on to shot 69 gross, and finished tied 3rd which, was playing second fiddle to the fact that i had an albatross, i could of finished last and wouldn't have cared one bit.

Very nice. Tastiest of birds. I dined on Alby a few years ago at Stevens Park in Dallas (short muni). Hit driver - SW into the hole with a 40 mph tailwind on number 5. No one there to see it, but it still tasted fine.

IN fact probably more rare as the second shot on a par is a longer shot than most par 3s and you are hitting off the deck and not a tee.

In 44 years of playing golf at a competent level I have only had two hole in ones. But I have had two double eagles the double eagles are sweeter to me.

 

Even though both aces were in tournaments.

Thats sick man...I've never even seen one before!

 

I was at the Jeld-Wen Tradition 2 years ago when Craig Stadler had one on 16 on Saturday, but I didn't actually see it. 16 and 18 green are right next to each other, and I was watching 18 when I heard the crowd go berserk next to us and I looked way out in the fairway and saw ol Walrus throwing his club up in the air!

Congrats man. I've gotten a hole-in-one on a par 4, so i spose its almost the same, although to me an albatross would be worth more as it means two good shots instead of one

I've never had an albatross, but did have an ace on a par 4, as mentioned above.

 

Can't say which I would rather have as I can't compare.

 

A hole in one just sounds cool, but a 2 on a par 5 means you hit two great shots in a row.

 

Hopefully one day I'll get one and then I'll let you know which one feels better.

Thats pretty darn cool man. I think that a double eagle or an ace on a par 4 is way sweeter than any hole in one on a par 3. To get either of those you have to be on the green before the course designer wants you there. I love the feeling of being on the green in less than regulation, but being in the hole, I would need new pants when I saw my ball down there. Congrats.

Funnily enough, I almost had one this morning. Left a 5 iron about 2 feet short. Toughest 2 foot putt all day.
