Falconhead is one of the best courses in town. It’s not private, but you can get a membership for a reasonable price last I checked.

Other options relatively close are Barton Creek, The Hills, UT Golf Club, Onion Creek, or Spanish Oaks. Most of those are break the bank options, but I suppose it depends on the size of your bank. Onion Creek is very affordable, but not in the same class. It has two sister courses in town (River Place and Twin Creeks) that are very solid, but a bit of a drive from Barton Hills.

WITB:

D - Titleist TSi2

3w - Titleist TSi2

3h - Titleist TSi2

4-9i - Titleist T100s

45*, 49*, 54*, 58* - Artisan Golf

P - Artisan Golf 0117

I've had the chance to play all of the courses you mentioned. Really enjoyed the Canyons course at BC and thought the Foothills course was nice (but not in my top 5 personally). Spanish Oaks was a blast and the service was awesome. UT was okay, but the course wasn't in the best condition when I played out there so probably not a fair representation of what it can be. The Hills was great as well, but a bit too far away for me personally. And Onion Creek is an okay track but the facilities are a bit dated and I was actually paired up with a couple guests that made tee times on Golfnow (which speaks to why the price is likely very affordable right now).

I'm actually in the process of making a decision myself. Happy to share my personal takes if you want to message me privately. Would also welcome any feedback anyone has to share regarding tee time availability at BCCC? The fact that they have 4 courses is really appealing, but I worry about fighting with resort guests for tee times (especially given all of the renovations/additions underway). If anyone has first-hand experience or insight, I'd love to hear it.

I'd have to offer Great Hills as a great option. I'm no longer a member due to a move out of Austin but I still think about the ease of getting a game on a very challenging golf course, a great group of members and the reasonable cost of being one, I would highly recommend Great Hills in back of the Arboretum. It may be too far a drive for you, but the pros are really good as well.

I play there three times per week. Here are some points;

  • They spent a year removing thousands of trees on the three in town courses. The results are very nice.
  • Foothills renovation was completed in June and it's in wonderful condition. If you haven't played it since June, you should.
  • Cliffside (Crenshaw) has been closed for renovation since June and should reopen soon.
  • Canyons will close next June to rebuild the traps and do other work.
  • The resort is scheduled to reopen in May
  • One in town course is reserved for members every day.
  • Currently, the first three tee times (Before 8 AM) on all courses are reserved for members.
  • We don't yet know the impact of the expanded resort, but the courses have historically been underutilized.
