MP 18 Fli Hi vs X-Forged Utility vs. P790 long iron

I would love to hear some opinions.

 

I have experience with the Fli-Hi and X forged utility and like them both. I've never hit the P790. I'm looking at shafting up a P790 3 iron as as my next experiment.

 

I love the versatility that this category of club offers and the recent resurgence has left us with so many good options.

I bought both the X Forged UT 21* and a Fli Hi 16.5* (not apples to apples but it's what I found on ebay to try out). I thought the Fli Hi had MUCH better feel on shots that were flushed, but also less forgiveness. For me, I didn't like the feel of the head on the X Forged UT no matter how clean I hit it. For now I will be sticking with the Fli Hi and probably selling the X Forged (or keep it in my backup set in the garage).

 

I can't speak to the p790 udi but I am curious to give that a try sometime because I've heard great things. I think that if you want a club you can also hit well off of the fairway then your experiment with the p790 3iron would be a nice thing to try out.

My p790 2 iron is insanely easy to hit and looooonggggg...my driver is mad at me since getting the p790 since i never pay her any attention anymore. Next step is to replace my 3 hybrid with a 790 3 iron

i have a 790 3iron and my son has a Callaway UT 3iron... my last driving iron was the new MP Fli-Hi 3 iron. Here is my take on them in order of preference.

 

1) TM 790 and X forged UT (tie)

3) MP Fli-Hi

 

The results i get from both the tM and the Cally are near identical... i could game either and it wouldnt make a difference. I must say though that the Cally has more of a fairway wood sound ting to it that i like. Both are long with comparable spin when tested with the same shaft. Neither are really hard to hit IMO.

The MP started very favourable until i picked up the MB set and then things went to s***... it started to be very erratic and contact from the fairway started to suffer. It shouldn't have but it did... the 790 and the UT both seem to blend better with my set to my eye. The 790 also seems to look like my old 712U at address and i like the look. Distance also was lacking by a half club with the MP as well. Both the 790 and the UT gave me the added pop to be a better tweeter club between the 4 iron and the 3 wood.

I personally moved from the fli hi to the x forged and would give the edge to the x forged but the fli hi is certainly no slouch.
