Private golf courses in Salt Lake City area

We are potentially moving to the Salt Lake City area from Michigan, so I am checking out some private clubs in the area. The job would be by the airport and we would be looking to live close to the course. We want to live no more than 30 minutes from work. I would be looking to pay around $10k for an initiation and keep dues around $500/month.

 

Here is what is important to me in a club.

 

1) The people. The club we belong to in Michigan is fantastic. Great people! I'm a single digit and play with guys from scratch to 15. Age range 35 to 55. We always play for a little something and love to give each other some grief, all in good fun. Lots of laughs every round.

 

2) Course layout. Nothing too tricked up or with houses lining every hole. Something you want to play every day. Our greens keeper is amazing and keeps the course in tournament shape every day. I appreciate a well keep course.

 

3) Greens. I am a fan of fast greens. Our greens normally run about 11 and tournaments up to 14.

 

4) Tournaments. Playing in the club championship, member/member, invitational is what club life is all about. It kind of goes hand in hand with the people.

 

Everything else clubhouse, food, pool, tennis, etc. really doesn't do much for me. It's all about the golf.

 

I trust the golfwrx family to help me out with this one. I would not rule out a semi private option, but that usually means losing out on the tournament play.

So in salt lake county there are 3 main ones. Willow creek, Hidden valley, and salt lake country club. All 3 are decent but imo overpriced. Salt lake is harder to join and cost is more than you want. Willow creek can be around 10k down nut getting close to 800 per month. Hidden is more down last time i checked but only a bit above your months requirement.

The biggest issue i have is you can get annual passes at most courses for 1000 - 1500 per year. Utah punlic golf is cheap and you really pay extra for private.

 

You can go north for cheaper but i havent neen impressed with the courses over public. Park city you will drive a bit but some amazing courses that get pricey.

I used to live in the Utah area ... based on your criteria I actually think your best bet might be Oakridge Country Club. SLCC initiation is going to be in the $50k range.
