Ben sayers 90s clubs

Hi folks new boy here. I just found my father's old clubs in the attic. I took them to the range and was blown away by how good they were.

They are Ben Sayers Sdt Pro Am graphite. Does anyone know of these clubs, when they were made, who they were aimed at, lofts etc? I emailed Ben Sayers directly but they told me the company was taken over in 1998 and these pre date that time so no info availble.

I have quite a collection of old clubs including some good old St Andrews Persimmon woods etc so will be seeking more advice now I've found this cracking forum.

Welcome along DavyTee.

There are a few UK members here, occasionally we even get to meet up and hit these old clubs!

 

I'm aware of three Ben Sayers Pro-Am models:

The Pro-Am which I assume was the first and is an out and out blade.

The Pro-Am Plus and yours, the Pro-Am SDT, "Superior Design Technology", which are both cavity backs.

 

I don't have any actual dates and would guess 1960s/1970s for the blade but for the two cavity backs I'm unsure which came first, maybe the Plus? Either way I'd put these late 1980s early 1990s.

Thanks for the reply Jiggerd. They are so good I'm taking them out for a game on Thursday much better than the Benross clubs I have at the moment

Played with these old clubs been told they are about 1996 and played my best game ever. Only played 9 holes but was +2 over net par and that's without my handicap of 13,absolutely couldn't believe it. Just my putting let me down or I may have parred the course. Who says you need modern equipment to play the game ?

Good scoring, I can tell that you've been bitten by the classic club bug, just need to add a couple of wooden woods, then maybe an old putter, then perhaps another set of old irons, or two, and some more woods.......

Got quite a few wooden woods already. I'll dig them out and put a few photos on here. I think most of them are St Andrews Persimmons.

Also got a full set of Ram Tom Watson Tour irons which I'm guessing would be from the early 80s maybe though I've no idea.
