TM M3 15 vs TM M4 16.5

Hey everyone. So I’m currently game a TaylorMade M3 15 with a MRC tensei pro blue 80x. I was able to get a TaylorMade m4 head in 16.5 degrees as sometimes I catch the 15 a bit thin and runs out when I hit it good. I use 3 wood off the tee most of the time but looking for a bit more control. Plus, I’ve moved back a tee and now have fairway wood in par 5 sometimes. Fairway flys around 245-255 and rolls 15-20 yards.

 

Again, mostly going to use this off the tee but do want something from the fairway that can be hit a bit higher and lands a little softer. Don’t want to lose much distance as I still use for short par 4s

 

Anyone have any experience or thoughts?

I haven't personally played a 3HL/4W but I feel like going 16.5* may also improve gapping between clubs. With how hot fairway woods are now, some people's 15* might get too close to their driver. It also helps gapping with those who aren't the best at hitting 3 iron. Choking down on a 16.5* may be easier than trying to power a 3 iron when you have those tweener yardages. I wouldn't be too worried about losing distance with a 16.5* because the M4 is pretty hot. Have you considered tweaking loft to your M3 though just to see how it plays?

Ya that m4 is hot so I hear what you’re saying. May be a good call since I go driver, 3 wood, 3 iron. 3 iron can run out to 225/235 so it’s a good call. I’ve turned the m3 up a few clicks and it isn’t too bad but the face angle bothers me as it’s fairly closed. It’s still in the bag and I will give it a go as it gets warmer again here in Dallas. Just want to be sure it’s right before I pull the shaft since the m4 isn’t adjustable.
