What's in the Bag?

One of my favorite sections in Golf Digest is the "What's in the Bag?" section near the end of the magazine...

 

I like hearing why the pros play what they play..

 

It would be cool to see a list of some of the top players with their favorite putter..

I like comparing yardages with the pros.

I like comparing yardages as well, then I am amazed at how much farther they hit it then I do.

I enjoy seeing what they play, and what I'll never play. Must suck having talent and being paid to play. Every once in a while i'll demo blades, just too remind myself of the talent I am lacking.

Yes...I like that part best as well. I wish they would do more "Whats in the Bag?" features on the Champions Tour guys since I'm 4 years past 50... Bob 6 hdcp.

Does anyone know how to the old Golfigest where they had all of the older "whats in the bag."

 

I was looking for it tonight and I could not find any of them... they once had an archive from like 2003. I wanted to find that stuff, but I cant seem to find it. its like when they switched over to the new look--all of the old stuff was gone

I agree with everyone. That is the first section I flip to as soon as I get the magazine. I also subscribe to Golf World because that comes once a week and has an equipment section listing WITB for all the winners from all the different tours played the previous week. It also has a small section listing any new clubs put into play the previous week and how they made out with there changes.

 

I really wish they would go into a little more detail, such as type of grind on a wedge, length of shafts, lie angles, grips, swing weights, driver specs like face angle, shaft flex frequency, grips, amount of layers of tape under the grips, shafts tipped or not, soft or hard stepped shafts, have the shafts been pured, better putter specs, hot melt, any customization to there set, etc. I know this is useless information to some but I would love to know that kind of stuff.

 

What are the reasons they're playing certain specs and how did those small changes affect there game, maybe ball flight, control, accuracy, better ball striking. Maybe some correlations can be drawn from guys that are fast aggressive swingers or have a certain body type. Maybe that's to personal of information to give out for a pro. Kind of like their own little secret weapon that they don't want to share with anybody to give them a little edge over the next guy.

Yeah, i was trying to find sergio's bag the other day and had no luck. I was trying to find it because i think i might have one of his old prov1x, because it has that logo on it that looked familiar. Meh... :rolleyes:

I cut them out of the mag. every month. I have them in a

3 ring binder that weighs about 20 lbs. (i've got others from

other mags. as well). I think I started collecting them in '98

or '99, back when the pros were using the Great Big Bertha

driver. ;)

I'm looking at my book right now. AHHH, the days of

the 975D and the PT-13.

These "what's in the bags" are what started me on

becoming a HO.

I remember finding my first pt-13. '"cool, a fairway wood

with 13*'". Man, those were the days.

 

LOL. I'm reading the first one in my book. Justin Leonard

from Feb. '98. He says he alternated the 1 iron and the 4-wood,

depending on the course. Some things don't change. LOL. :shout:

I cut them out also and have them in a 3 ring binder. I have all the old and new ones. Pretty easy to compare what players switch too. I think "whats in the bag" is probably most peoples favorite section..

They have to have won in order to see what they play, right? So if they haven't won, or it's been a wile, then you have nothing updated?

Anywhere else to find out updated equip info?
