Hi, I'm new to WRX and just getting back into the game after a good 10+ years away from it. Played a bit this summer with my parents at a guest at our local club (lake Mohawk) and will be joining this spring as it's basically in my backyard and only a 1 min drive to the club parking lot.

Wanted to say hi to other local forum members but I see the region, mid-atlantic, is quite large. Anyways, I use to play competitive golf as a junior and hoping to get back into tournament play once I feel my game is ready. Curious on what events everyone plays in this area? NJSGA, MGA, etc.???

Hope the OP played in some events last year.

I tried NJ Am, MGA Ike/Am, NJ Fourball and NJ MId AM.  Didn't advance at any sites this time, but will give it a go in 2021.

Played Lake Mowhawk years ago for NJ Fourball qualifier which me and my buddy scratched out a good round and advanced onto Essex County CC which was a lot of fun.  At qualifier we started on 10 and I hit driver, 5 iron to about 4 or 5 feet and made it to start with an eagle!!  I should think about trying to qualify from LM if there are any SQR's this year...checking njsga website now haha

I got to play in the state am qualifier that was at Mohawk, wasn’t my best round with two triple bogeys on the scorecard. I also started off bogey, bogey, and a 3 putt for a par 5 on my first 3 holes, I was a bit nervous at first but my playing partner was a nice guy and overall was a fun day. I shot 81, and 75 qualified.

Looking forward to this season already. Going to sign up for a few more qualifiers this year and hope to play some other courses in these events other than my home track!

Goofy things can happen in events, like things you've never seen before lol.  I bet you can go the entire season without two triples on the card, but make it an event and weird things can happen.  81 is respectable - switch the two bad holes with pars and you're right at the cut line.   Tournament golf has been a process for me; I started playing later in life so still figuring it out.

I may try the NJ Open SQR at Mohawk (and might hit you up for a practice round if/when the time comes 😀 ).  The snow is melting!  Looking forward to the season as well - good luck!

@wely324 time to revive this thread. If you're still looking to play Tournament golf, there's a NJ chapter for the Golfweek Amateur Tour that started last year.
