Left Arm off the Chest

I am resurrecting this thread because I find its general tenor somewhat possibly misleading.

 

I was recently experimenting with different things I could do with immediate feedback to get more consistency, and was emphasizing different parts of the swing, one of which is pushing against my upper left arm with my chest.  I recalled some time ago reading the following written by Brian Manzella based on the research of Dr.Nesbit:

“The second torque (Beta) is the movement of the club into a flatter position as you get halfway through the downswing. If you tend to get too steep or over the top, here's where you want to focus. In a good downswing, the lower body shifts left and then the upper body turns and pushes into the left arm, which pitches the club into a slightly flatter, more horizontal position. From there, you can turn hard and use the right side of your body to produce extra speed. As your hands move closer to your body near impact, the club whips in line with your left arm—the bit of turbocharging at the bottom that tour players use to get extra distance.”

 

In other words, the chest exerts a force on the left arm: some of the kinetics, which parts the kinematics don’t address.

 

My experience is in short that it works…that is, pushing on the left arm with the upper body after the lower body shifts left by turning the upper body is something that you can do and feel that you are doing, all at the same time and unequivocally.  The real and feel unite.

I am also so impudent as to revive this thread. The bane of my golf existence is that I turn my body too much into my lead shoulder during transition. This pinnes my lead arm against my body, my right elbow flexes and gets stuck behind my trail side soI have to slow down my body rotation and flip through impact to hit the ball.

Are there any drill here that will help me get out of this movement pattern? Drills with external feedback work particularly well for me (think of the punisher drill). Is a beach ball between my pec and lead arm a good idea?
