High School/College Workouts

Recommended Posts

Does your High School golf team workout?

Just Curious to see how many do besides mine.

If yours dose, what do you do?

We start off by running, we alternate between sprinting and endurance.

Then we do core workouts, for about 10-15 minutes.

Then we hit the weight room, on days we do endurance running we do upper body workouts on Hammer Strength machines, on sprinting days we do lower body workouts such as squats, power cleans, leg press, leg extension, and leg curls?

Also curious to hear about college workouts?

Well, I'm in highschool and we have workouts every morning at 6:30 before school.

This is what we do:

Stretch
Run 1 mile
Lift weights
- Mostly focusing on the back, core, and chest. But we doo everything, arms, legs, cover everything.
- 12 reps, 3 sets.
Core work (hardest part)
- 2 steps of 20 each with a medicine ball.
- 40 toe touches with a medine ball.
Various Calisthenics
- I's and T's (aka Airplane's)
- Pushups
--- Pushups with right hand on medicine ball and other on ground, pushups with left hand on medicine ball, and pushups with both hands on the medicine ball.
- Bridges
- Dead Bugs
- Resistance pushups and situps (parner pushes on yoo)
Run another 1 mile.

Our college workouts are a joke. My team works out twice a week and thats it. And this is at a D-1 program. And only during the off-season from November-February.
However, I work out seperately because of the lack of committment and dedication to actually trying and playing. My workout is based off a marathon/triathlon/strength workout. I am either doing cardio or strength training 7 days a week during the offseason and 5 days a week during the season. I also play basketball at least twice a week, play a little lacrosse, and play on a club soccer team when I have time. I just recently started seeing a trainer that worked with the UCLA mens and womens team and going a little more hardcore to prepare for playing professionally.
For those of you looking to workout like college players, just go see a trainer. Most universities that I know of do very little training and lifting. The vast majority of current college players that don't play at major schools aren't exactly athletic, or basically most guys look more like Phil rather than Tiger.

We used to have scheduled workouts but our coach just changed it. You only have so many hours a week for scheduled practices and playing (20 hours I believe) and our coach wants to use that for playing. So we have to workout on our own time and it is up to us what to do. We have trainers there to help us if need be but our coach really just wants to know who will do what it takes to become a better golfer on their own. One major thing we do for strength is called a russian cycle. We use that for bench press, squats, and pulldowns and it has helped tremendously.

I usually workout for about an hour and a half with the football team at my school and that includes heavy lifting usually 3x3 or 5x5 and then core everyday and running which includes speed training and plyometrics. then i go out with the golf team and play a round walking with sum extra weight in the bag, ie: shoes clothes a few plates from the gym just to strengthen through the round. Then 2-3 hours of studying for class the next day. Repeat 7 times a week

  • 4 weeks later...

i will be glad to share our college workouts lol.............Every night we drink beer and finish it off with some cigarettes. Your standard junior college workouts lol

I have spoken with the college coach of stanford (Conrad Ray) over the phone about what they do in their workouts. They never do any long distance running, just many short burst sprints to work the quick muscles. He also said that they dont do a lot of heavy weight lifting, just flexible lean excersising

There is nothing wrong with heavy lifting, my split goes as follows:

Day1:
10 Min CV warm up
2x15 roman chair back extension
3x5x80% max Deadlift
3x5x80% max Renegade Row
5x1x80% cleans
3x5x80% max lat pulldowns

Day3:
10 min CV Warm up
2x15 Hip Adductor machine (squat hip flexor warm up)
3x5x80% max Squat
3x5x80% Flat Benchpress
3x5x80% Over head Dumbell shoulder press
3x5x80% Incline Benchpress
3x5x80% Skull Crushers
5x1x60% Snatch
3x5x80% dumbell curl
Ab work

My 2nd day is longer but the intensity isn't as high, deadlifting is an energy taxer so the volume is down, but trust me Renegade Rows are HARD! Also if you notice, I incorperate the olympic lifts into my rountine, this is because o-lifters are the most explosive athletes on the planet. A golf swing is a split second of explosive power. I also run for 20min at low intensity between these days. I.E. Days 1 and 3 I lift hard and Days 2 and 4 I run easy to work on endurence, not speed. I'm not fast and I never will be. I also eat very clean and try to stay away from caffene other than a Red Bull before I lift.

Bats/Sticks/Tools:

Ping G 10.5 set at 9.9, tour ad di 6x
Titleist 915F set at A4 (16.5), Rouge Black 80s
Titleist 910H set at A1 (19), Diamana Whiteboard 90s
Titleist 714 AP2 4-PW, KBS Tour 120s
Titleist SM6 52(bent to 51), 56, 60. M grinds on the 56 and 60 F on the 51
Cameron Squareback.
