TOUR 33 Muscle Back Irons?

I just impulse bought these on the. bay, curious if anyone has ever heard of these or has any information.  The seller listed them as forged, but I can't find any info anywhere.  Any thoughts/ideas?

That was my thought as well, definitely could be mp-33 knockoffs. Is there any way to tell if they are forged or cast once I get them in hand?

Townes Van Zandt (I love the musician): try the magnet test, that will usually prove it.  I'm not sure if the magnet sticks its forged or not.  You can do a search on this website or someone will respond.

A magnet will stick to carbon steel but not to stainless steel.  It will stick to cast or forged equally well so there's not really any way to tell between the two unfortunately.  Luckily all of us true wrx'rs can tell just by feel...  😆

That’s actually a drawing of my dog, Townes in my profile pic. He’s the best.

I’ll let you all know when I get them if I can feel that tuning fork ringing in my loins. I wanted a cheap set of blades to mess around with and that’s why I got. Thanks for the help!

Forged or cast I'm sure they will play nice.  They certainly do look wonderful to me but then I'm a big fan of the simple and uncluttered look which these have in spades.  They would look stunning with a new set of long black ferrules with fancy colored rings too.  Just sayin'...  😅

My Craftsman Magnetic Protractor that I use to measure loft and lie sticks to stainless steel just fine.  This is one of those old myths that never seem to die but simply isn't true.

 

I don't know there's a foolproof way to tell forged from cast by sight.  If a club has had much use at all you can see the underplating of the chrome on plated clubs, most of which are forged, but there are chrome plated carbon castings such as Vokey wedges and Spalding even made some chrome plated stainless heads in the 70s.

 

I'd guess the ones in the OP are cast stainless.  Not that there's anything wrong with that!

Well, I guess the real answer to the magnet test thing has to do with what kind of stainless it is.  Austenitic stainless steel (300 series) is not particularly attracted to magnets but martensitic stainless (400 series) is.  Many stainless irons are made from 17-4 grade which is martensitic and therefore will attract to a magnet.  So I guess you are probably correct in noting that a magnet will stick to many stainless irons and therefore checking for magnetic properties is probably not very accurate in determining what material they are made of.  Good call.

I saw a 6 through Pitching Wedge set of these for $29 at play it again sports in Tampa. Great looking set of irons. I would have bought them but i didn’t want to try to get them home on an airplane.
