Finally a replacement for my Adams Pro Gold Hybrids. Epic Flash!

For over 10 years I’ve been playing the classic Adams Pro Gold hybrids. Shod with the equally classic Matrix Altus.

 

I’ve tried to replace them many times with the latest and greatest, but always gone back.

 

Now that I am nudging 60, and with the lofts of modern irons making modern long irons impossible to hit, I decided it was time to seriously look at replacing my 4 and 5 iron. So I’ve been buying and selling the usual suspects in modern hybrids over the past few months - Ping, TM, Mizuno, Cobra, Callaway & co.

 

Most were longer than the Adams, but none were as consistent in distance and direction.

 

Until eventually I tried the Callaway Epic Flash 21. Firstly with an older Motore 8.8 (excellent), and then with Ventus HB (orgasmic).

 

I’ve not been this impressed with an under-the-radar club since the Callaway Fusion driver.

 

The occasional awful swing aside, I’ve hit every shot I want to hit straight, dead straight. Every shot I’ve wanted to fade has done without me consciously changing the setup. My stock shot is a draw,  but I specifically want this club to not go left and it hasn’t. Ever.

 

Best of all, I get both height and spin. I’ve hit a bunch of greens with it from 180-190 out. Which is unusual in itself. But on each the ball has stopped within a couple of feet of the pitchmark.

 

I know there are many lovers of the classic Adams hybrids out there. Give the Epic Flash a try. The face is slightly open and can be adjusted. The sound and feel is great. And (unlike my Pro Golds) it looks good from address.

 

I’m so giddy with excitement I have bought the 18 and 24, and am trying the Ventus Velocore in my driver in case that is the secret sauce.
