Quicksands at Gamble Sands opening weekend review (finally fixed the pics in the post)

Played Quicksands 5/2 9:45am first tee time of the day. Here's what it looks like when you enter. Almost like the view when you look down on Chambers Bay from the top of the clubhouse.

 

1st Green called Plinko. Hit the ball off the backboard and watch it roll back to the pin

 

2nd Green called Right Wing. Hit the ball towards the right side of the green and it should roll towards center of green

 

 

3rd Green. Hit over the bunker in front center and behind it there is a punchbowl green.

 

4th Green called Half Pipe because....the green resembles a half pipe.

 

5th Green...not sure why it's called semi blind

 

 

6th Green...aim to the ball at the Left Bank of the green...duh

 

The outhouse before the 7th green is probably the nicest outhouse I've been in

 

7th Green

 

8th Green. Longest Hole on the course at about 167 yards.

 

9th Green. Gnarly contoured green hence the name Corkscrew. I think there was like 4 different small tiers all purposely placed awkwardly.

 

10th Green. Bunker kind of in the center of the green.

 

 

11th Green. Green contours were vary wavy

 

 

Lotta little ant holes. Watch your step

 

 

 

12th Green. Don't go over the green or it goes downhill and will have to face a high pitched return to the green

 

13th Green...Aim a little left and take putter off tee since it's downhill and because it's fun.

 

 

Ball ended up in front of the little grass mound in front of the hole from the putt of the tee.

 

 

14th Green. Nice finishing hole that actually needs some skill playing. Last Green on the course.

 

 

All in all these are a fun set of holes to play. Took me about 75 minutes to play the whole course by myself with no on in front of me. No need to bring anything longer than a 160 yard club. I only was carrying SW, PW, 7, and putter.

 

I didn't really enjoy the music selection they had playing on the course so much. Mostly XM radio classic rock, but I get it and I know where that appeal comes from.

 

I think these holes are funner to play than the Bandon Preserve, but of course it doesn't have the ocean side views. Definitely a must play if you are coming all the way out to Gamble Sands. Probably even funner with a big group.

 

Kudos to McLay Kidd and Gamble for creating this fun course.

Looks and sounds like a blast. Great write up and thanks for the pics! I was there the weekend prior to opening and itching to go play it. I'll have to make another trip over to get some shots in on Quicksands. Very fun to watch Gamble Sands grow. Hope they add another 18 soon as well!

My Caddy said possibly next year. They already have all the holes designed. Probably just a logistics and financial thing that could be blocking it.

Great write up. Love the pics. I especially liked how you took pictures of the outhouse and the ant holes. LOL.

 

I stepped on an ant hole at Tobacco Road a few years ago. NEVER AGAIN!!!!!
