Replacing a putter shaft with an iron shaft?

Want to know what flex and if an iron, let's say pw shaft would be a good replacement for a putter shaft

 

My back up putter is an old odyssey versa 9 that was in the basement for a lot of time, the shaft has lots of rust spots so i want to replace it. Have a set of dg s300 .370 that i pulled from an old set so i'm asking for advice if these will be a good fit

There are two schools of thought on this.

 

1. It doesn't matter, use any shaft.

2. Use the stiffest shaft you can.

 

The one thing to consider is that if you use a longer iron shaft once you cut it down you might end up with the grip extending down over the stepped part of the shaft.

 

For the reason above I'd say go with the wedge shaft, assuming it gives you the correct putter length with minimal trimming.

With putter (and most clubs for that matter - but particularly with the putter) shaft weight is going to be much more important than stiffness.
