Press grip and other options

I recently got a putter that I love.  It’s a strokes gained weld neck center shaft (I’ve recently gone to center shaft with very good results).  The issue is the loft.  It is 4 degrees and it seems to be too much for this putter.  To get a nice tight roll I need to forward press or manipulate my hands in another manner.  So I can’t really use it.  There is no easy way to bend it, but with a little driving, I can get that done.  I can also just sell it.  Today however I was thinking about the lab golf press grips and wondering if this would change the delivered loft and possibly help.  What do you guys think?  Are there any other grips that operate on a similar principle?

Not sure if there are any other grips that do similar but the Press Grips will apply that forward press without you having to.

 

As for loft at impact well that really depends on your stroke, the putter is 4° but are you delivering it at 4? 7? 2? something else with a current grip? But if you're saying forward press gets the ball rolling how you want it to then yeah it could work and a grip change is cheaper than buying a new putter so try out the 1.5 or 3 and see what you think, if not sell the putter and buy one in your proper specs.

I don’t know exactly what I’m delivering it at.  I know that it is 4 degrees and does not get a consistently good roll.  My other center shaft putters with less loft give a better result, as does a forward press or manipulating my hands to decrease loft.  Seems like the press grip is a cheap way to see if this putter could work...

If a bit of forward press gets the roll you want then yeah I'd say give it a try especially if you like the putter and don't want to order another one cause new Strokes Gained putters are not cheap.

Yeah.  I really like the putter and quite honestly could not afford to buy another one with less loft.  I bought this one second hand (hence the issues as not in my specs, although I don’t know if I would have known to build it with less loft), and got a good deal on it.  I club ho like everyone else here but I’m not the guy who can spend over $1,000 on custom stuff.  Thanks for feedback, I’ll try the grip.

I know which one you're talking about and it's nice, Rohrs does nice work and yeah dropping 1k on a putter not many can do but paying have the price for the same putter is doable at times. Interesting to hear the results with the new grip.

First trip out with the press 1.5 and the results were very good.  I was able to get a much better roll without changing my putting stroke to deloft it.  I’m going to order another one of these and see how it works on some other putters.
 It seems these center stroke putters are better with a little less loft, at least for me they are.  It makes sense that would be the case, and the companies that specialize in them seem to be making them at 2-2.5 degrees.  Other companies seem to be putting a center shaft on the same lofted head they use for the putters with offset.  Perhaps I’m wrong about this, but it’s nice to have an option other than bending to experiment with.

while I was waiting for the grip I was putting really well with a Seemore PCB, so now I’ve got a competition going for which putter gets the spot in the bag.  Good problem to have.

Glad you found an easy and cheap solution, see if the experiment works on the other putter.

I know this is old post but did you have success putting with the press grip1.5 on your putter. I’m thinking of putting it on my see more center shaft putter. Did you order the press grip right off the lab golf website?
