Hunting vs Golf

Does anyone use a hunting rangefinder for golf? Pro's/con's?

I use a Sig Sauer Kilo1000 for both. I only use it in the woods while scouting. And I prefer to use my Garmin watch for distances on course; using the rangefinder more at the driving range for true distances to targets.

 

When I was researching using it for both I chose the Kilo1000 because you have a selection of target modes (Best/Last) so I figured it could handle both jobs. It also lets you choose between Line of Sight and Angle Modified Range. So it should be rules of golf compliant using LOS mode.

I use a sig sauer too, it works well but is hard to lock onto flags at times. The hunting rangefinders have a narrow beam, they want to miss the small trees and lock on to the larger targets while hunting. Golf models are easier to hit flags, which is why I'm switching to a golf model this upcoming season.

I’ll second this. I use a very cheap Halo hunting range finder. Only way I can get the pin distance is if the flag is waving and I can hit the flag. Won’t lock on to pin because of the different technology the hunting range finder uses. Either that or I shoot something around the green (tops of bunkers). Not an exact number but it does fine I guess.

I used to and it was a Leupold and compact and just fine.  Eventually got my daughter a Leupold for golf (no slope function) and liked it so much I got me one as well and they've been great.  Pretty basic models and more compact than most.
